Fans of the New York Yankees are swarming Baltimore’s Camden Yards.

Through Wednesday, nearly half the crowd at the home of the Orioles will be wearing Yankees hats and jerseys while cheering the visitors. For many, the approximate 31/2-hour drive down I-95 from New York to Camden Yards is a sound economic decision.

John Trush came from New Jersey with his wife, daughter and her boyfriend to see Monday’s afternoon game. Trush paid $150 each for tickets marked at $48 and considered it a bargain.

The Yankees’ official Web site lists the top ticket price this year at $400, but those seats are rarely available on game days.

Camden Yards used to be filled to capacity with Orioles’ supporters, but the fan base has wilted in the wake of 10 losing seasons.

Martinez back soon

Pedro Martinez is likely to rejoin the New York Mets’ rotation early next week in San Francisco.

On the disabled list nearly all season with a strained left hamstring, Martinez is scheduled to make a rehab start Wednesday night for Class-A St. Lucie.

Reds call up Bruce

Cincinnati promoted 21-year-old outfielder Jay Bruce, the Reds top prospect, from Triple-A Louisville and designated first baseman Scott Hatteberg for assignment, ending his three-year stay in Cincinnati.

Clearing the bases

Detroit placed Gary Sheffield on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain on his left side. … Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andruw Jones will miss the next four to six weeks after surgery on his right knee. … Arizona placed left fielder Eric Byrnes on the 15-day disabled list because of sore hamstrings. … Pittsburgh shortstop Jack Wilson came off the disabled list and returned to the lineup for the first time since straining his left calf in the opening week of the season.
