Ben Affleck hosts ‘SNL’
Tonight’s must-see
“Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Getting some of its best ratings in years, NBC keeps adding pre-election episodes.
This one has Ben Affleck hosting, with music by “American Idol” winner David Cook. There will be more Monday, when an election-eve special includes previous bits.
Other choices include
“Archangel,” 8-11 p.m., ION. As Daniel Craig’s second James Bond film nears, here’s a peek at his pre-Bond days. This was made in Europe as a TV movie in 2005, but will be new to most Americans.
Football, 5 p.m., ABC. It’s Texas and Texas Tech. They take this quite seriously.
“CSI: Miami,” 8 p.m., CBS. When a man is killed during an eclipse of the sun, people suspect the killer isn’t human.
“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” 9 p.m., CBS. There’s a country feeling to this one, which involves rodeo murders. Jewel and Shooter Jennings (Waylon’s son) perform.
Sunday’s might-see
“The Simpsons,” 8 p.m., Fox. The annual “Treehouse of Horror” tends to be a delight. These are just Halloween-time stories; anything can happen, without altering characters.
And the result this year? Well, there’s a very funny little opener, in which a machine diverts Homer’s votes. After that, things slump off.
Other Sunday choices include
“Titanic” (1997), 4-8 p.m., TNT, or “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977), 5-8 p.m., AMC. Two great movies collide. Gifted directors (James Cameron, Steven Spielberg) knew how to blend stunning visuals with warm human details.
“Desperate Housewives,” 9 p.m., ABC. Having broken up with her young lover, Susan plans to surprise him – with unexpected results. Meanwhile, Lynette suspects Tom is cheating; Gabrielle suspects an offer from Carlos’ client is shaky.
“Brothers and Sisters,” 10 p.m., ABC. Nora is determined to meet the boy fathered by her late husband – and to do it quickly before Holly steps in.
