Anderson sparks Whits

Scores 6 TDs in win over PLU

Adam Anderson carried 31 times for 217 yards and a school-record six touchdowns to spark the Whitworth Pirates to a 40-29 victory over the Pacific Lutheran Lutes in Northwest Conference action on Saturday in Puyallup, Wash.

Whitworth (5-3, 3-2) scored the final 19 points of the game to erase a 29-21 lead by PLU (2-5, 2-2).

Anderson, who had three scoring runs in the second quarter, extended his single-season school record for TDs to 22. He is also the NCAA Division III leader in total offense. He had 60 return yards against the Lutes and finished with 277 total yards.

Whitworth’s running attack helped them dominate time of possession by a 39-minute to 21-minute margin.

Linfield 32, Puget Sound 24: Dean Kongslie returned a fumbled punt 13 yards for a touchdown just 3 minutes, 57 seconds into the game and the Wildcats (5-2, 4-1) held off the Loggers (2-5, 0-4) in Tacoma.

Quarterback Kavin Williams rushed for 201 yards and two TDs on 30 carries and passed for 145 yards and a score to lead the Loggers.

Western Washington 20, Dixie State 14: Quarterback Adam Perry connected with Pat McCann for a 2-yard touchdown in the final seconds of the first half and the Vikings (5-4, 5-2) held on through a scoreless second half to beat the Rebels (3-7, 1-6) in St. George, Utah, and clinch second place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The win all but clinches a spot in the Dixie Rotary Bowl for the Vikings. The top GNAC team not reaching the Division II playoffs qualifies to play a team from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Conference winner and ninth-ranked Central Washington is likely headed to the playoffs.

Central Washington 36, Azusa Pacific 6: Jerome Morris carried 15 times for 123 yards and a TD and Mike Reilly passed for 217 yards and three scores to lead the ninth-ranked Wildcats (9-1) past the Cougars (1-8) in non-conference play in Azusa, Calif.

CWU’s Justin Helwege caught four passes for 136 yards and a touchdown.
