Stanford sweeps Cougars

The Washington State volleyball team was swept by the fifth-ranked Stanford Cardinal 25-12, 25-19, 25-22 on Sunday in Stanford, Calif. It was the Cougars’ fifth consecutive match against a ranked team.

Jackie Albright led WSU (7-15, 0-11 Pac-10) with 11 kills. Stanford (19-3, 10-1) was led by Cynthia Barboza’s 13 kills.

•Sixth-ranked Washington sent No. 4 California to its first home loss of the season, sweeping the Golden Bears 25-18, 27-25, 25-19 in Berkeley, Calif. Jenna Hagglund had 40 of the team’s 42 assists for the Huskies (17-4, 8-3 Pac-10). Cal fell to 19-3, 9-2.

Women’s soccer

Whitworth rolled past visiting Lewis & Clark 5-0, the Pirates’ seventh win in eight matches.

Kara Tisthammer had one goal and two assists for the 15th-ranked Pirates (13-4-1, 9-4-1 NWC). Callie MacDougal made one save for her second straight shutout. The Pioneers dropped to 4-10-4, 3-10-1.

•Idaho scored early but couldn’t make it hold up in a 2-1 loss to Hawaii in Moscow, Idaho. Ashley Perez scored at the 24-minute mark for the Vandals (1-16-2, 0-6-1 WAC), but Hawaii (8-6-4, 4-2-1) scored twice in the second half for the win.

Men’s soccer

Nick Love’s goal in the second overtime gave Gonzaga a 3-2 win over the University of San Francisco in San Francisco. Mitch Boland and Tye Perdido also scored for the Bulldogs (7-7-2, 4-4-1 WCC). The Dons (6-8-2, 5-3-1) stayed in second place.

Junior hockey

Connor Olstad had a hat trick and had two assists and Cody Mesick scored with 18 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but the Spokane Braves fell to the visiting Grand Forks Border Bruins 7-6 in a shootout.
