Laib leads Freeman to state

Tanner Laib ran for 201 yards and scored three touchdowns to spark Freeman to a 48-21 win over Omak as part of a State 1A play-in tripleheader at Moses Lake.

The Scotties (8-1), the Northeast A champions, are home against Granger on Saturday.

After Laib’s initial TD, the Pioneers had two quick scores, including a 99-yard TD run, but then the Scotties took over with a 28-point second quarter.

Chris Miller accounted for two touchdowns, a 30-yard run to even the game before hooking up with Chris Miller for a 77-yard scoring play.

Isaac Hamilton followed with a 45-yard interception return, one of three picks for the Scotties on their way to seven takeaways. Cody Gunn scooped up a fumble and returned it 32 yards in the third quarter.

The other two NEA teams didn’t fare as well.

Chelan rolled past Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 35-10 and Cascade (Leavenworth) defeated Chewelah 42-21. Lakeside finished 6-4, Chewelah 4-5.

The games featured No. 2 seeds (Lakeside, Cascade) against No. 3 seeds.

Idaho

Fruitland 44, Timberlake 22: The Tigers (5-5) made a long trip for naught, falling behind early in the State 3A quarterfinals. The Grizzlies (10-0), who play at Buhl (8-2) next weekend, scored the first 28 points and led 34-6 at halftime.

Tommy Macfarlane did a lot of the damage for Fruitland, with eight carries for 123 yards and three touchdowns.

Deary 56, Wallace 6: At Wallace, the Mustangs had no problem with the Miners (6-3) in the opening round of the 1A Division I playoffs.
