Laib runs wild in Freeman win
Tanner Laib ran roughshod over Granger Saturday to lead host Freeman into the second round of the State 1A playoffs.
Laib piled up 329 yards on 29 carries and scored five touchdowns as the Scotties pulled out a 38-27 win at home. Freeman (9-1) will meet Royal (10-0), a 46-7 winner over Chelan, in the quarterfinals.
The Scotties, who piled up 453 yards of offense, went ahead 32-27 when Luke Mathews hit Steven Burke for a 14-yard TD. Laib iced the game with a 16-yard run.
State 2A
Pullman 36, Tumwater 12: At Pullman, Cody Weber rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns and passed for another as the Greyhounds throttled the Thunderbirds (9-2).
Pullman (9-2) piled up 397 yards, 273 on the ground as Jared Byers picked up 117.
Pullman’s Cody Peterson hit 8 of 13 passes for 102 yards and two TDs. Pullman advances to play Burlington-Edison (10-1).
Othello 28, Colville 21: The Indians (7-4), who had four turnovers, fell behind the Huskies 14-0 in the first quarter and never quite dug out of the hole in losing at Othello (10-1).
State 2B
White Swan 27, Garfield-Palouse 12: The Cougars scored three touchdowns in the first half to turn back the visiting Vikings. Todd Pitner rushed for 104 yards for G-P (6-4).
State 1B qualifier
Tri-Cities Prep 66, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 20: The Jaguars (9-1) outscored the Warriors 22-0 in the first quarter to roll to the easy win. Mike Rehn of the Warriors (7-4) had 114 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 16 carries.
Idaho State 1A Division II
Kootenai 54, Garden Valley 26: At Harrison, Ben Shannon rushed for 283 yards and three long touchdowns as the host Warriors (11-0) qualified for the state championship game. Jake Hall added 157 yards on 10 carries and scored three times. Kootenai will play Carey at 3 p.m. Friday in the Kibbie Dome.
