Kerney out for year after Hawks put him on IR
The Seahawks have placed Patrick Kerney on injured reserve, ending the season for Seattle’s top pass rusher.
The team announced the move Wednesday. The 31-year-old Kerney had shoulder surgery earlier this month after injuring his left shoulder in an Oct. 26 victory at San Francisco.
Seattle signed defensive end Brandon Miller off waivers from Atlanta.

Gymnastics
Karolyis accused
USA Gymnastics has never received a complaint about Bela or Martha Karolyi in the nearly 30 years they have been coaching in the United States, the governing body said, a day after a Romanian gymnast alleged the two had abused her.
Trudi Eberle Kollar, a double silver medalist at the 1980 Olympics, said the Karolyis hit her when she was at the Romanian national training center in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The Karolyis coached the Romanian team before they defected to the United States in 1981.
Baseball
Red Sox trade Crisp
The Kansas City Royals picked up the leadoff hitter they had been seeking, acquiring center fielder Coco Crisp from the Boston Red Sox for reliever Ramon Ramirez.
Crisp hit .283 with seven homers and 41 RBIs in 98 games this past season. He also stole 20 bases in 27 attempts, the third straight season he’s reached the 20-steal mark.
With a fastball that reaches the mid-90s mph, Ramirez is a power pitcher who seems suited for the late innings. He was one of the primary setup men for closer Joakim Soria and flourished in that spot, going 3-2 with a 2.64 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 712/3 innings.
•Mussina reported to retire: FoxSports.com reported that New York Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina intends to retire and will make the move official this week.
Olympics
IOC denies claim
Women’s ski jumping is being left out of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, because there are not enough athletes to merit the sport’s inclusion, not because of gender discrimination, an International Olympic Committee spokeswoman said.
A group of women ski jumpers is suing the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee and will get a chance to argue in British Columbia Supreme Court on April 20 for their sport to be included.
The IOC voted in 2006 to exclude women’s ski jumping from the 2010 Games, saying the sport didn’t meet the basic criteria for an Olympic event. Vancouver Olympic organizers have said they are bound by the decision of the IOC.
