EWU’s Walker honored
The hard-luck 2008 football season at Eastern Washington University for Marcus Walker had a happy ending for the senior from Pullman.
Walker was selected as the Big Sky Conference defensive player of the week for his performance in EWU’s 33-26 season-ending victory over eighth-ranked and regular season league champion Weber State.
One of 18 seniors on this year’s Eagle team, the 5-foot-11, 210-pound linebacker had two interceptions, eight total tackles and a half-sack.
Volleyball
Eastern Washington University volleyball player Hayley Hills was named the Big Sky Conference player of the week after helping the Eagles to a 3-1 road win over Sacramento State to help the Eagles win the outright regular-season crown.
The award is her fourth of the season, the first time that has been accomplished by an Eagle since Kim Exner earned it four times in 1998.
Basketball
Gonzaga women’s basketball player Heather Bowman has been named the West Coast Conference player of the week. This is the second-straight week a Bulldog was tabbed as the WCC player of the week, as Courtney Vandersloot earned the honor last week.
Bowman, a junior forward from Lewis and Clark High, led the Zags to a 3-0 week. She averaged 24.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals while shooting 58.7 percent from the field.
This is Bowman’s sixth WCC player of the week honor of her career.
