Tree-lighting ceremony planned
Celebrate the holiday season with the city of Millwood at the second annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on the front lawn of the Inland Empire Paper Co., 3320 N. Argonne Road.
The festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday. Santa Claus will hand out candy canes, and the West Valley School choral group will serenade the crowd. Company Ballet Dance Group will perform a short routine.
Children will have a chance to decorate their own cookie provided by the Millwood Presbyterian Church. Free cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be available. For additional information, call Shirene Young 924-1911, ext. 309.

Gift bazaar next Saturday
The Old Fashioned Christmas Gift Bazaar will be held next Saturday at the Fairfield Community Center, 304 E. Main Ave.
The bazaar will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring crafts and gifts from more than 20 area vendors. Christmas trees also will be for sale. The Fairfield Museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will have a bake sale.
Other holiday festivities include Santa Claus’ arrival at 9:30 a.m. at the Fairfield Hardware Store, pictures with Santa at the Bank of Fairfield at 10 a.m., and a pancake breakfast in the dining room at the Community Center from 9 a.m. to noon.

Enjoy CYT’s ‘A Christmas Story’
Christian Youth Theatre will perform the holiday classic, “A Christmas Story” next Saturday and Dec. 13 at 3 and 7 p.m., and Dec. 14 at 3 p.m., at Adamson auditorium at Trent Elementary, 3303 N. Pines Road.
CYT has placed a Books for Tots receptacle near the main entrance of the auditorium and is asking those in attendance to bring a book appropriate for children up to age 12 years. Anyone donating books will be entered into a drawing for tickets to CYT’s winter production of “Cinderella.” Tickets for “A Christmas Story” can be purchased by calling 487-6540 or online at www.cytspokane.com.
Blankets being collected
Jennifer’s Auto Sales, 15020 E. Sprague Ave., and the Spokane Valley Fire Department are reaching out to the community to help keep those in need warm during the winter.
Jennifer’s reported on Nov. 19 it had collected 91 blankets for area shelters during its blanket drive.
Blankets will be collected through Dec. 24 and may be taken to Jennifer’s Auto Sales or any Spokane Valley Fire Department Station.
