WV students earn AP Scholar Awards
Eight students at West Valley High School have earned AP Scholar Awards based on their scores on Advanced Placement exams. Nationally, about 18 percent of AP students earn a high enough score to win an award.
Students Peyton Boone, Alexandra Deane, Christina Frattali, Laura Larson and Morgan McQueen earned an AP Scholar Award for completing three or more AP exams with a grade of 3 or higher. Students Benjamin Holz, Travis Kline and Jasmine Pacheco earned AP Scholar with Honor award for earning an average grade of 3.25 on all AP exams or grades of 3 or higher on four exams.
Craft fairs
As you prepare your Christmas shopping lists, plan to support local schools as they host craft fairs to raise money for events and programs.
•Trent Elementary, 3303 N. Pines Road, will host its craft fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday.
•Seth Woodard Elementary, 7401 E. Mission Ave., will have its craft fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Saturday. Admission is free and proceeds will benefit the school’s ASB fund. There also will be door prizes.
Benefit concert
The Fine Arts Department at Central Valley High School will host an “I Am Africa” benefit concert at 7 p.m. Thursday. The goal of the event is to raise awareness to challenges facing youth in South Africa and the proceeds will benefit The Field Band Foundation in South Africa.
The performance will feature the Central Valley Wind Ensemble and a capella Choir. Student art work also will be on display in the art gallery.

Santa’s Village
Children can buy Christmas presents for family and friends during a Santa’s Village from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and next Saturday at Skyview Elementary, 16924 E. Wellesley Ave. Each child will be assisted by a personal shopper in selecting and wrapping gifts. Most items will be $5 or less. Santa Claus will be available for pictures between noon and 4 p.m. next Saturday.
