Scoop contest winners named

Scoop Reporter was spotted hiding among advertisements in last week’s Voices by the following six winners who are this week’s Honorary Cub Reporters and are eligible to receive free ice cream. This was the last week of the contest.

Jimmie Morris, 12, who attends Shaw Middle School and is the son of Ruth Eddy and Jim Morris. Jimmie found Scoop on page 4 of the North Side Voice.

Luke Guin, 8, who attends Mullan Road Elementary, spotted Scoop on page 4 of the South Side Voice. He is the son of Jodi and John Guin.

Byron Lamoreux, 12, who attends Centennial Middle School and is the son of Todd Lamoreux, found Scoop on page 8 of the Valley Voice.

SNR receives grant

The Specialized Needs Recreation Program was recently awarded a $3,031 grant from the Inland Northwest Community Foundation, through the Florence Wasmer Fund for Children and Families.

The grant will be used for SNR’s Camp Allstars Program which provides school and after-school programs. The day camp, for youths ages 4 to 21, also has camps during spring, summer and winter breaks.

SNR is a nonprofit organization, providing recreational opportunities for youths and adults who have disabilities. Call Angie Goucher at 769-2317 or 755-6781 for more information.

Sandpoint

Ranger district plans burning

The Sandpoint Ranger District will conduct fall burning in the Little Blacktail Mountain vicinity, east of Cocolalla Lake, starting next week or as late as November, weather permitting.

Forecasts and ground conditions will be monitored daily to determine when the best burning opportunities may occur. The decision to burn will only be made if weather and fuel conditions allow.

The burning will reduce the potential fire hazard of logging slash, prepare sites for tree planting and improve wildlife habitat.

Conservation League conference today

The Idaho Conservation League will host the annual Wild Idaho North! Conference at the Sandpoint Business and Events Center from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today.

The event will include keynote speaker Dennis Glick of the Sonoran Institute in Bozeman, and will feature music from Acoustic Wave Machine, a silent auction, lunch and a social hour following the conference.

Field trips to Nature Conservancy project sites and the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail also will be offered on Sunday.

Business workshop offered

The North Idaho College Idaho Small Business Development Center is offering a workshop for business owners and leaders Tuesday through June 2. The workshop is meant to help business owners survive the economic slow down and position their business for growth.

Entrepreneurial Leadership Training I is a nine-month workshop and will be held on the first Tuesday evening of every month at the NIC Workforce Training Center in Post Falls.

The workshop combines monthly business training with two hours of confidential business coaching each month. It is designed to help owners gain deeper insights into critical success factors for their businesses.

Topics covered will include goal setting and planning, target marketing, sales, operations, management, managing growth and more.

To qualify, the business must have been in operation for at least one year and only one business will be permitted per industry segment.

Cost is $495, which includes all materials. Space is limited.

Priest River’s first Octoberfest and Street Fair Celebration will be held Saturday at the intersection of Main and High Street from noon to 8 p.m.
