‘SNL’ features guest host Anne Hathaway

By MIKE HUGHES Gannett News Service

Tonight’s must-see

“Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. This wraps up a four-week stretch of new episodes. Next come prime-time half-hours, on the last three Thursdays before the election.

So far, “SNL” has had great political moments, with mixed success at anything else. The first week was awful; the next two have been fairly good.

Tonight, Anne Hathaway (“Brokeback Mountain,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) hosts, with music from The Killers.

Tonight’s choices include

“Knight Rider,” 8 p.m., NBC. A rerun night starts with this hour: Some drag-racers double as weapons runners. They’re fast, so Mike must chase them in KITT. Sarah joins the mission, something her dad isn’t happy about.

“Chuck,” 9 p.m., NBC. The season opened Monday with this bright, jaunty hour. A new computer is almost ready, making Chuck sort of unneeded. He figures that’s a good thing, and he can finally date his beautiful spy colleague; there may be a catch, though.

“EliteXC Saturday Night Fights,” 9 p.m., CBS. Try to remember that CBS was once called the Tiffany network. This features martial-arts fights.

Sunday’s must-see

“Masterpiece: The Last Enemy” 8 p.m., KSPS, 9 p.m. on KUID and KCDT. Two brothers grew up as opposites. Stephen, worried and withdrawn, became a math genius. Michael, open and zestful, aided refugees in Afghanistan.

Now, hearing that his brother was killed, Stephen returns from years in China. He finds London filled with paranoia.

He has new worries of his own. Who is the strange woman in Michael’s apartment? And the dying woman in Michael’s bed? And who is the silent stranger stalking them?

Don’t expect quick answers. The stranger, for instance, doesn’t speak a word tonight.

Mysteries and deceptions tangle. Don’t start this unless you plan to watch diligently for five Sundays. If so, you’ll catch a bracing, intelligent thriller.

Sunday’s must-see II

“Desperate Housewives,” 9 p.m., ABC.

Mike finally meets Susan’s young lover. Meanwhile, neighbors remain icy to Edie, while trying to learn more about her husband (Neil McDonough).

Sunday’s choices include

“In Harm’s Way,” “Valentine” and “Easy Money,” 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., CW. In a bizarre move, CW gave this night to an outside company, which is debuting its shows with little advance word. At 7 p.m., a reality show starts with Coast Guard rescuers. At 8 p.m., Cupid and other gods have moved to Los Angeles. At 9 p.m., Laurie Metcalf leads a family of loan sharks.

“The Simpsons,” 8 p.m., Fox. Dreams differ: Bart obsesses about getting a cell phone; Lisa reaches Peru’s Machu Picchu.

“Cold Case,” 9 p.m., CBS. In 1991, it was believed that an inner-city teacher died in a carjacking gone bad. Now murder is suspected.

“The Unit,” 10 p.m., CBS. The team tries to protect a scientist on a commercial airline.
