Evolving, exploding once again

Godbear latest project for Aaron Bocook

From left, Aaron Bocook, a.k.a. Dicky Richardson, Derek “Nitro” Watson and Buford Van Cleave Braime are Godbear. Jebadiah Polzine, 3, not in the band, waits for his dinosaur back. (Rajah Bose / The Spokesman-Review)

ID: Godbear features former members of Impact Exploder and The High Holies.

Style: Loud, aggressive rock with strong overtones of punk

Roster: Guitarist, vocalist Aaron Bocook, aka Dicky Richardson; bassist, vocalist Buford Van Cleave Braime, and drummer Derek “Nitro” Watson

Origin: “Buford was sleeping my couch for a few months and started noodling on bass for the first time since high school… We had out first practice on leap day,” Bocook said.

Godbear versus Impact Exploder: “(Godbear) is way faster; by far the best thing I’ve done, or at least my favorite project,” Bocook said.

Live show: “We have been wearing costumes to add an element of the theatric, but really we rely on having well-written and well-rehearsed songs,” Bocook said. “We love people to stand up front and participate. To me the audience and band should be equal parts of the show.”

Local scene: “I’m very happy about the new Cretin Hop, an exclusive all-ages venue,” Bocook said.

Next gig: Tonight at 9 p.m. at Mootsy’s, 406 W. Sprague Ave., in a Platform Presents show with Brooklyn’s Flaming Fire and Spokane’s Meteorites Attack. Cover is $5.
