Larsen powers Vandals past Utah State in WAC
Haley Larsen dominated at the net Thursday night, pounding down 21 kills as the Idaho Vandals bounced back from an opening-game loss to beat visiting Utah State 22-25, 25-8, 26-24, 25-16 in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match at Moscow.
Larsen also came up with nine digs for the Vandals (11-6, 4-2 WAC), who hit .265 as a team while limiting Utah State (5-12, 3-3) to .068.
•Visiting Saint Mary’s used a balanced attack, paced by Shannon Lowell’s 10 kills, to hand Gonzaga a 25-19, 26-24, 25-15 West Coast Conference setback.
The loss was the third straight in conference play for GU (6-12, 0-3), which got a match-high 12 kills from Michelle Boevers.
Women’s soccer
Eastern Washington opened Big Sky Conference action by playing Idaho State to a 1-1 tie in Pocatello.
The Eagles (2-7-2 overall) scored the match’s first goal in the 32nd minute and the lead stood up until ISU (2-7-4) got a late goal from Taylor Powell.
