League leaders Mead, LC post shutouts

Mead and Lewis and Clark remained tied at the top of the Greater Spokane League standings with one game remaining after posting shutouts Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers, who hold the tiebreaker over the Tigers for the top seed in the district tournament, blanked Ferris 2-0 with a pair of second-half goals at Mead.

Mikayla Anderson set up Lindsey Pangborn for a breakaway in the opening minute of the second half for the winner. Anderson then iced the game with a goal in the 69th minute. Mead outshot the Saxons (6-6, 4-5) 18-2.

Lexi Greenwood redirected a ball from Kenzi Grow late in the first half to give host LC a 1-0 win over Shadle Park (3-9, 3-6) at Hart Field.

The Tigers (13-2 overall) and Mead (11-1) both have 8-1 league records, but the Panthers won the head-to-head showdown 5-2 last week.

Elsewhere, Mt. Spokane (9-2, 7-2), won 3-1 at Rogers (0-9), which scored its first goal of the season. Kaylee Raymond scored on a penalty kick in the second half for the Pirates. The Wildcats, who have secured the top seed for the 3A district tournament, remained in third overall as Morgan Williams and Shelby Hunter scored first-half goals and Hollie Bergstrom closed out the scoring.

Lauren Archibald hooked a shot from 30 yards out over the keeper 25 minutes into the game and AB Stauffer scored off a corner kick in the second half to lift University (8-6, 5-4) to a 2-0 win over visiting East Valley (5-7, 3-6).

Senior Megan Lindsey scored two goals and assisted on freshman Ashley Ames’ goal to spark Gonzaga Prep (12-2, 8-2) to a 5-0 win over Central Valley (5-7, 3-6).
