Halloween events planned at area churches
Halloween is approaching fast and several Valley churches are stepping up to host harvest festivals and other events marking the candy-infused holiday.
• Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will host its annual Trunk or Treat on Friday. Cars with trunks full of candy will be in the church parking lot for kids to visit. Hot apple cider will be served. The event will last from 6 to 7 p.m.
• Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines Road, will host a Harvest Party Sunday at 5 p.m. There will be games, a parade of costumes and food. People interested in participating in the pumpkin carving contest will need to bring their own pumpkin. Costumes should be in good taste – nothing overly scary or gory. All ages are welcome.
• A Harvest Festival will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pasadena Park Nazarene Church, 8822 E. Upriver Drive. Dinner will be served and there will also be carnival games, prizes and a bounce house. Costumes are encouraged, but leave the scary ensembles at home. The cost of the dinner is $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 5 through 11. Children four and younger are admitted free.
Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The free carnival will be open from 6 to 8:30.
• Foothills Community Church will put on a Harvest Fun Night on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be games for kids, a pie social, music and a quilt show. Those attending can also head across the street for a chili feed. The event is free but donations will be accepted for the Union Gospel Mission. The church is at 11102 N. Forker Road.
Reformation Sunday
Two Valley churches are planning to do something special to celebrate Reformation Sunday, which commemorates the day in 1517 when Martin Luther called for changes to be made in the church.
• Peace Lutheran Church, 4124 N. Harvard Road, will host a narrative service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The various parts of the service will be explained during worship.
• Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., will host a combined worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in honor of Reformation Sunday.
Bishop’s Reception
Spokane Valley United Methodist Church will host a reception for the Rev. Grant Hagiya, bishop of the Pacific Northwest Conference, at 3 p.m. Sunday. All are welcome. The church is at 115 N. Raymond Road.
Renewal and Thanksgiving
Greenacres Christian Church will begin its annual Season of Renewal and Thanksgiving beginning Sunday. The event stretches over five Sundays and will focus on how the life and teachings of Jesus provides a blueprint on how to live in harmony with God, ourselves and creation. It will conclude with a potluck lunch following the worship service on Nov. 23. Weekly worship services begin at 11 a.m. on Sundays. The church is at 18010 E. Mission Ave.
