‘Worst Week’ pilot funny stuff

By MIKE HUGHES Gannett News Service

Tonight’s must-see

“Worst Week,” 9:30 p.m., CBS. If you haven’t started watching TV’s best new comedy, this is the time. It repeats its pilot film in an all-rerun CBS night.

Sam and Melanie visit her parents, planning to break the news: She’s pregnant; they’re getting married.

Then the trouble starts. Sam seems to botch everything around her parents.

The result is hilarious, but we wondered if “Worst Week” could keep it up week after week. It can; subsequent episodes have been just as funny.

Tonight’s must-see II

“Raising the Bar,” 10 p.m., TNT. Tonight’s court cases are fairly involving. An HIV-positive man is charged with attempted murder for spitting at a cop; a 14-year-old faces charges, after pointing thugs to a house.

Beyond that, there’s a key personal crisis. Charlie still hasn’t told his boss, Judge Kessler, that he’s gay; now she’s planning a romantic trip.

Other choices include

“Chuck,” 8 p.m., NBC. Tony Hale of “Arrested Development” arrives as an efficiency expert at the store. He wonders why Chuck is acting strangely; he doesn’t realize Chuck (in his other job) is trying to prevent World War III.

“Big Bang Theory,” 8 p.m., CBS. In a funny rerun, the guys are surprised to learn Sheldon has a hot sister.

“How I Met Your Mother,” 8:30 p.m., CBS. For the second time, we see the days when Robin was Robin Sparkles, a one-hit pop singer. In a moderately funny episode, she re-meets her former teen crush.

“Two and a Half Men,” 9 p.m., CBS. Charlie falls for an older woman who writes self-help books.

“Heroes,” 9 p.m., NBC. Elle is back, with news for Clare. Also, the transformed Suresh leaves Nathan and Tracy terrified.

“Primal Fear,” 9 p.m., History Channel. There’s much talk about the history and science of fear, but the best parts are personal. We meet a nightclub fire survivor … a lifeguard who made a rescue amid deadly currents … and the woman who chased a bear that had started to eat her husband.
