Senior center hosting Survival 101

The Southside Senior Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave., is hosting Senior Survival 101 on Saturday from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Program topics include health care, elder law and more.

A panel of professionals will be on hand to answer questions helpful to seniors and their families. Panel guests include Beth Alcorn and Colleen Messling from the Southside Senior Center; Nancy Doughty from Lighthouse Care Management; Diane Rudman, elder law attorney; and Christie Hoffman of Riverview Retirement Community. Pamela Pierson of Lighthouse Care Management will moderate and answer questions.

Benefit to support cancer victim

The Washington State University and Eastern Washington University students of the University Programs in Communication Disorders program are hosting an Autumn Benefit Ball in honor of a recent graduate of the program who was diagnosed with metastatic cancer.

The semi-formal ball will be Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. in the lobby of the Health and Sciences Building on the WSU/EWU Riverpoint Campus, 310 E. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The event will include dance lessons, salsa and swing dancing, and a basket raffle.

The suggested donation is $10 per person or $15 per couple.

Auction will fund academy programs

“Building Dreams, Building the Future,” Cornerstone Christian Academy’s annual auction will be held Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at Life Center, 1202 N. Government Way.

A silent auction will include sporting event tickets and vacations. A sit down Italian dinner and live auction will follow the silent auction.

Tickets are $20 per person or $125 for tables of eight. Tickets can be purchased at the school.

Proceeds will benefit outreach programs and the building fund for the school.
