Rodriguez destroys two teams

By Steve Harvey Los Angeles Times

Did ex-West Virginia Coach Rich Rodriguez ruin two teams when he jumped to Michigan in the off-season, allegedly destroying some player files at his old school? With their 1-2 records and spread-thin offenses, the WV Mountaineers (11-2 last year) and the Michigan Wolverines (9-4 in 2007) are vying for Biggest-Comedown-of -2008 honors.

Also in the running, or rather stumbling, is Rutgers, which has degenerated from 8-5 last season to 0-3 this year.

Meanwhile, No. 6 San Diego State (0-3) did not play last week but, after extensive negotiations, the team has tentatively agreed to resume its schedule this week.

Norfolk State (2-2) made its debut at No. 18 after a 12-42 loss to undermanned William & Mary (William missed the game for personal reasons).

11. Washington (0-3); 12. Washington State (1-3); 13. Washington weather; 14. Utah State (1-3); 15. Memphis (1-3); 16. Houston (1-3); 17. Toledo (1-2); 18. Norfolk State (2-2) 19. Your Pick Here; 20. Notre Dame (2-1).

Crummy game of the week: The SMUs (1-3) vs. Tulane (1-2).

Rout of the week: Wisconsin (3-0) over Michigan (1-2).

Defector: Vanderbilt (4-0), which made the Associated Press poll (at No. 21) for the first time in 24 years, has been suspended for the rest of the year by the Bottom Ten.
