Scoop contest winners named

Scoop Reporter was spotted hiding among advertisements in last week’s Voices by the following six winners, who are this week’s Honorary Cub Reporters and are eligible to receive free ice cream.

Congratulations to:

Jared Nelson, 10, who is a student at Assumption Catholic School, found Scoop on page 4 of Thursday’s North Side Voice. He is the son of Terry and Ruth Nelson.

Ethan Upp, 10, who is a student at Bryant Elementary and is the son of Rick and Cynthia Upp, spotted Scoop on page 14 of the South Side Voice.

Lance Gifford, 9, who is student at Continuing Curriculum School, found Scoop on page 17 of the Valley Voice. He is the son of Guy Gifford.

Berrick Cooper, 7, who is a student at Garwood Elementary and is the grandson of Susan and Jim Ochenkoski, spotted Scoop on page 8 of the Prairie Voice.

Erin Vopalensky, 8, who is a student at Orchard Prairie Elementary, found Scoop on page 8 of last Saturday’s Valley Voice. She is the daughter of Greg and Mary Vopalensky.

Emma Hazel, 5, who is a student at Bryant Elementary and the daughter of Joel and Christa Hazel, found Scoop on page 6 of last Saturday’s Handle Extra.

Coeur d’Alene

Officers ticketing for school zone speeding

Coeur d’Alene police officers are enforcing traffic laws in school zones. A fine of $116.50 will be issued to drivers caught speeding in the zones. Officers issued 62 citations in the last two weeks to drivers speeding in the posted school zones.

The areas of concern are Kathleen Avenue near Ramsey Elementary, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, and St. Michelle Drive and Kathleen Avenue near Woodland Middle School.

Visit Sparky the Fire dog at department’s open house

The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, 3850 N. Ramsey Road, will hold an open house next Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sparky the Fire Dog will visit the event to entertain the kids. Children also can take part in a combat challenge and look through a Med Star helicopter.

Chief Kenny Gabriel will give an introduction and visitors can observe a live fire service and a K-9 presentation. Hot dogs and beverages will be provided.

Library’s weekend hours changing

The Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave., will adjust its weekend hours beginning next Saturday.

Saturday and Sunday hours will be from noon to 4 p.m. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.

NIC Booster Club luncheon Tuesday

Kootenai County Sheriff Rocky Watson will be the speaker at the North Idaho College Booster Club Luncheon at noon, Tuesday, at the Coeur d’Alene Resort’s Shore Lounge.

Watson plans to present on the Kootenai County Comprehensive Facility Expansion Proposal.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting and no-host lunch.

Bonner County

Fall election festival planned at Fairgrounds

The Bonner County Democrats will host a fall election festival today at the Bonner County Fairgrounds from 5 to 8 p.m.

Activities include live music by the Shook Twins and food by Ivano’s Pend Oreille Pasta, Ice House Pizzeria and more. Children and adults can enjoy art activities and voter registration and absentee ballot applications will be available.

The event is free and open to the public.
