WSU women beat Idaho
Elysse Van Leer recorded a goal and an assist to lead Washington State to a 2-0 victory over visiting Idaho in non-conference women’s soccer on Sunday.
It was the third consecutive home shutout for the Cougars (5-2-3). Carly Dobratz also scored for WSU, which concludes non-conference play Friday at home against Eastern Washington.
Idaho fell to 1-8-1.
•Sheridan Jones scored in the 104th minute to give Gonzaga a 2-1 double-overtime victory over visiting Eastern Washington.
Sarah Rhodes connected at 56:08 to give Gonzaga (5-6-0) a 1-0 lead. Lauryn Koelzer scored in the 58th minute for EWU (2-5-2).
Men’s soccer
Washington defeated Gonzaga 2-1 in Seattle for its third consecutive victory.
Ben Funkhouser scored at 24:34 to pull Gonzaga (4-3-1) into a 1-1 tie, but Taylor Mueller answered at 69:05 to give the Huskies (5-3-0) the win.
•Whitworth and visiting Pacific Lutheran played to a 1-1 tie. Courtney Walker scored for Whitworth (5-2-1, 1-2-1 Northwest Conference).
•Caleb Barnhill’s Northwest Conference-leading seventh goal of the season gave Whitworth a 3-2 victory over visiting Pacific Lutheran.
The eighth-ranked Pirates (7-1-1, 3-1 NWC) pulled out the win after surrendering a 2-0 lead.
Junior hockey
After two scoreless periods, the Spokane Braves broke through with four goals in the third period to defeat visiting Nelson 4-1.
The Braves wrapped up the first month of the season with a 6-2 record, good for first place in the Neil Murdoch Division of the KIJHL.
