Ace second fiddle to Fairways record

Normally, a hole in one generates a buzz around the clubhouse that lasts for weeks.

But the one Eddie Heinen made during Sunday’s final round of The Fairways Fall Best Ball Open, didn’t even qualify as the biggest news in his foursome – thanks to Peter Sisich, who trumped Heinen’s ace on The Fairways’ difficult par-3 13th by shooting a course-record round of 13-under-par 59.

Sisich, who was paired with Nate Hair and playing in the same group with Heinen and his partner, Randy Henry, made three eagles and seven birdies in breaking the previous course record of 61 that was held jointly by Kirk Triplett and Colby Myers.

“It was just a crazy day all around,” said Sisich, who rolled in a 70-foot putt for an eagle-3 on the third hole and then chipped in from 40 feet off the green for an eagle-2 on the 16th.

Adding to the craziness was Henry, who teed off ahead of Heinen on the 13th and had his ball rolling back toward the hole until it hit the closest-to-the-pin sign about a foot from the cup. The group ahead, according to Sisich, witnessed Henry’s tee shot and said it would have probably hit the pin and gone in the hole had it not hit the sign.

The Fairways’ director of golf, Kris Kallem, said Sisich’s 59 will stand as the competitive course record because he putted out on every hole, even though it was a best-ball competition.
