People: Locklear likely high on life

A woman under the influence – but the influence of what? That appears to be the question about Heather Locklear at the moment.

According to the celebrity news site TMZ, the star of “Dynasty,” “Melrose Place,” and so much else was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving while impaired.

First, someone called the police to say Locklear was driving erratically. Next, an eagle-eyed police officer noticed her car parked on a highway and blocking one lane near the town of Montecito, Calif.

Alcohol was ruled out, but the actress was booked on suspicion of prescription-med DUI. She was released without bail on her own recognizance.

Both Locklear and ex-hub Richie Sambora have been busted for similar charges, raising some interesting child-custody issues.

‘Eagle’ lands pretty

Shia LaBeouf’s conspiracy thriller “Eagle Eye” saw its way to the summit of the weekend box office, taking in $29.2 million. LaBeouf and director D.J. Caruso also debuted at the top with “Disturbia” last year.

This weekend’s runner-up was “Nights in Rodanthe,” with Diane Lane and Richard Gere, amassing $13.6 million. The previous box-office victor, “Lakeview Terrace,” slipped to No. 3 ($7 million), followed by “Fireproof” ($6.5 million); the Coen Brothers’ “Burn After Reading” ($6.2 million); “Igor” ($5.5 million); “Righteous Kill,” ($3.803 million); “My Best Friend’s Girl” ($3.8 million); Spike Lee’s “Miracle at St. Anna” ($3.5 million); and Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Preys” ($3.2 million). The top 12 movies took in $87.8 million, up 15 percent from the same weekend last year.

Some vows do last

It’s worth noting one more thing about Paul Newman, the longtime movie great with those great eyes. Despite a ton of Hollywood gossip for all 50 years of their marriage, he and wife Joanne Woodward were married, and had never been unmarried, when he departed to his reward. Theirs was one filmic bond that lasted.

No Joker: The money’s owed

A former attorney for Heath Ledger is suing over a $10 million life insurance policy he claims has gone unpaid since the actor’s death. Attorney John S. LaViolette sued Minnesota-based ReliaStar Life Insurance Co, claiming the company is trying to avoid paying the claim to Ledger’s young daughter, Matilda Rose, (whose mother is Ledger’s ex, Michelle Williams).

The lawsuit doesn’t mention names. It states that it’s on behalf of a man who died of “accidental causes on January 22, 2008.” That’s the day Ledger was found dead of an apparent accidental prescription drug overdose.
