NIC extends WINGS to area students

North Idaho College will give Lakeside High School juniors and seniors the opportunity to spread their WINGS Tuesday.

NIC will offer an information session on its dual credit program, known as WINGS, an acronym for Win by getting a Good Start, for parents and students at 11:30 a.m. at Lakeside. Local home-schooled students are also welcome to attend.

The program provides students with the opportunity to enroll in NIC classes for high school and college credit.

The classes are offered at half the cost of normal college credits and are available to juniors and seniors.

Open meeting on tech crimes

The Post Falls Police Department, along with the Post Falls School District and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, will hold a community meeting on Tuesday to provide parents, teenagers, and teachers, with information regarding the growing technology-related crimes against children and teens.

From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at River City Middle School, 1505 N. Fir St. in Post Falls, Officer Paul Farina of the Post Falls Police Department, Jim Kouril of the Idaho Attorney General’s Office and ICAC Investigator, along with members of the U.S. Attorney General’s Office and the FBI, will address Internet crimes, issues with texting, the new and dangerous trend – “sexting” – along with other alarming teen behaviors and crimes.

The purpose of the discussion is to make participants aware and arm them with the tools to keep their children, themselves, and their students safe.

Fundraiser for Model U.N.

The Bonner County Human Rights Task Force will host a Spring Forum at 7 p.m. at the Panhandle State Bank Community Room, 414 Church Street in Sandpoint, on April 17.

The forum is a fundraiser to support the Model United Nations class at Sandpoint High School and will feature a home-cooked Ethiopian/Djibouti dinner.

Proceeds from the dinner will help the Model United Nations class raise funds to attend the Model U.N. Conference in New York City in 2010.

Advance tickets are $12 per person, $6 for children under age 10, and $30 for families. Tickets at the door are $15 per person, $7 for children under 10, and $35 for families.
