Look who’s the biggest Twit

Ashton Kutcher (Associated Press / The Spokesman-Review)

Ashton Kutcher is the Twitter king.

The actor triumphed over CNN in their much ballyhooed race to be the first to reach a million followers on the microblogging Web site, where people follow each other’s updates of 140 characters or less.

Kutcher surpassed that benchmark in the early morning hours Friday, narrowly edging out the cable news network.

He had long trailed CNN, but staged a rally in recent days.

After his come-from-behind win, Kutcher celebrated by tweeting “Victory is ours!” and webcasting a video live on ustream.tv.

Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey made her entry to Twitter, joining the site and hosting a special show Friday with Kutcher as a guest. She gained 100,000 followers in less than a day.

She was welcomed with messages from George Stephanopoulos, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon and Shaquille O’Neal.

Winfrey, Kutcher and CNN all pledged to mark the occasion by purchasing mosquito bed nets to combat malaria.

Kutcher donated $100,000 to the Malaria No More Fund, the charity said Friday.

Not quite mommy’s little angel

The son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal is getting one last chance to kick his drug habit.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge Friday transferred two felony cases against Redmond O’Neal to drug court, but warned that if he fails at rehab again – as he has at least three times before – he’s going to prison.

O’Neal, 24, said he’s motivated by his mother’s cancer to stay clean, and he’s ashamed of his arrest for taking heroin to an L.A. jail.
