Prep roundup: Dunton’s bat powers Vikings

Ryan Dunton stroked back-to-back three-run homers in the fourth and fifth innings Wednesday afternoon, powering visiting Coeur d’Alene to a 15-6 romp past Post Falls in an Inland Empire League baseball matchup.

Post Falls (5-13, 2-10 IEL) got three hits from Brett Winn and outhit the Vikings (15-6, 10-3) 11-9, but the Trojans couldn’t overcome seven walked batters – five of which scored – and four errors.

•Intermountain League: Jonathon Bauer stroked three hits in each game and Kyle Kenser blasted a home run in the opener as Kellogg swept a doubleheader from visiting Priest River, 10-9 and 19-13. Chad Yount hit a pair of home runs for Priest River (3-6, 3-5) in the nightcap, while Michael Marion and Gavin Strader also had three hits in the opener for Kellogg (5-7, 3-7).

Softball

Inland Empire League: Jessica Craft, Kathy Comack and Lindsey Ritzheimer ripped consecutive singles to highlight a three-run first inning and visiting Coeur d’Alene (11-7, 5-7) went on to thump Post Falls (15-5, 7-5) 7-1. CdA pitcher Amber Coburn left the game in the third inning after being hit on the leg with a line drive but suffered only a deep bruise.

•Intermountain League: Melisa Kruse scattered four hits and belted a solo home run to lead Kellogg (2-5, 1-4) past visiting Priest River (3-6, 1-5) 7-3 in the opening game of doubleheader. Priest River won the nightcap 8-5 behind Melisa Kruse’s eight-hit pitching and five RBIs.

Boys track and field

Great Northern League: West Valley’s Justin Degenhardt and Michael White finished 1-2 in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, and teammate Brian Haffner won both hurdle events as the host Eagles swept past Clarkson 124-21 and Riverside 134-11 in a double dual. Degenhardt won the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 41.9 seconds and the 3,200 in 11:09.6. Haffner’s winning times in the hurdles were 16.3 and 42.7. Riverside beat Clarkston 87-58. … Pullman’s Micah Adams won the 800 (2:05.7), 1,600 (4:44.1) and 3,200 (10:33.4) to lead the Greyhounds past Colville 97-39 and Deer Park 84-52 in a double dual. Dallin Lundgren won the 110 (16.2) and 300 hurdles (42.3) as DP beat host Colville 84-39.

Girls track and field

Great Northern League: Bailey Wold won the long jump and triple jump and Rachel Rubright and Krystal Hughes each won a distance run in leading host West Valley to wins over Clarkston 85-60 and Riverside 98-52 in a double dual. Wold soared 33-3 in the triple jump and won the long jump with a leap of 14-7, while Rubright captured the 1,600 in 5:44.0 and Hughes took the 3,200 in 12:33.8. … Deer Park rolled past Colville 89-52 and Pullman 86-55 in a double dual that also saw Colville trip Pullman 89-51.

Girls golf

Greater Spokane League: Lewis and Clark’s Chessey Thomas and Megan Haase each shot 2-over-par 74s to share medalist honors and lead the Tigers to and easy win at Esmeralda Golf Course.

Boys golf

Greater Spokane League: Lewis and Clark’s Justin Travis tied University’s Hank Frame for medalist honors with a 2-under-par 68, helping the Tigers to a first-place team finish at Esmeralda Golf Course. The Tigers finished with a team total of 364, followed by Mead at 371.
