Died Decorated World War II veteran Bill Barnes, 91, who coached football at UCLA from 1958-64 and played at Tennessee, died Thursday of complications from pneumonia at Santa Monica (Calif.) Hospital.

•A high school baseball player who was struck by a wild pitch has died. Doctors at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Mo., declared Patrick Clegg brain dead Thursday night and he was taken off a respirator Friday.

Filed Former U.S. Speedskating national all-around coach Bart Veldkamp filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Kearns, Utah, against the organization. The lawsuit came on the same day the organization announced that Derek Parra would take over the position.
