Prep roundup: CV baseball routs Mead

The Central Valley baseball team pulled within a game of second-place Mead on Tuesday.

Now the Bears (11-3) will look to leapfrog the Panthers (12-2) in the return game at CV on Thursday.

J.T. Beach struck out seven as the visiting Bears handled Mead 11-2 in Greater Spokane League action.

A double by Cody Cooley knocked in two runs for CV in the sixth inning.

Elsewhere in the GSL: League-leading University (13-1) blanked visiting Rogers (1-14) 9-0. Pitcher Billy Moon moved to 5-0 by striking out 12 while allowing just three hits and two walks. Moon also helped matters at the plate with a three-run homer in the fourth. Michael Holmes also had a two-run homer in the inning as the Titans opened a 7-0 lead. … Ferris (10-7) moved out of a fourth-place tie with idle Mt. Spokane as the Saxons shut out visiting East Valley (5-10) 10-0. Dereck Peterson tossed a two-hitter, striking out seven. Brett Ward went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs. C.J. Haney had two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases and Ben Goodwin added two hits, two RBIs and two runs. … Gonzaga Prep (7-8) had 20 hits in a 21-1 run-shortened victory over visiting North Central (1-14). The Bullpups blew it open quickly, scoring 17 runs on 12 hits in the first inning. Cash Ulrich led the way with two hits and three RBIs. … Lewis and Clark (8-7) parlayed 17 hits into a 12-2 win over Shadle Park (5-11) at Avista Stadium. John Reed went 3 for 3 with two runs and Josh Martin had two hits and three RBIs. Jimmy Reed allowed just three hits and struck out six.

Inland Empire League: Both games – Lewiston at Moscow and Lake City at Sandpoint – were rained out and rescheduled for Friday.

Intermountain League: Bonners Ferry (12-5, 7-3) continued its grip on second place by shutting out visiting Timberlake (6-13, 4-8) 10-0. Pitcher Greg Taggart, who struck out 10 while allowing just two hits and no walks, didn’t allow a hit through four innings. Aaron Hoisington had two hits, including a run-scoring double. … Chad Yount’s two-out grand slam in the bottom of the ninth lifted Priest River (4-10, 4-8) out of last place and knocked Kellogg (7-9, 4-9) into last in a 7-4 win at PR. Brian Nelson had an RBI single in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Kyle Bradbury went the distance, striking out 16 while allowing just three hits and giving up eight walks.

Softball

Inland Empire League: Visiting Lake City (18-2, 12-1) clinched the league title and No. 1 seed to next week’s regional tournament with an 11-0 win over Sandpoint (0-16, 0-9). Jamie Hall went 3 for 5 with two homers and four RBIs and Jessica Ross also went 3 for 5 with a homer. … The Lewiston at Moscow game was postponed because of rain. No makeup date was announced.

Greater Spokane League: Central Valley (12-2) remained a game behind league-leading University with a 4-1 win at Mead (10-4). Rachel Ford and Becky White both had three hits and an RBI. Alyssa Erickson had five strikeouts and the one run by the Panthers was unearned. Rachel Yuen had two doubles for Mead. … Mt. Spokane (8-6), behind 14 strikeouts from Delaney Zalud, handled visiting East Valley (7-8) 13-3. Erin Olmstead went 2 for 4 with a solo homer to go with two runs and two RBIs. Kelsey Kurtz had two hits and two runs for EV. … North Central (6-9) needed just five innings to stop Rogers (1-13) 12-1. Cheyenne Delaroca had two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Mindy Tremblay was 2 for 3 and knocked in a run. … Kristin Furulie went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to lead visiting Lewis and Clark (5-10) past Ferris (3-12) 7-2. Hillary Johnson had two hits and a homer to lead the Saxons. … Shadle Park (11-4) had 15 steals on its way to a 9-3 win at Gonzaga Prep (4-11). Allie Burger led with five steals. Amber Johnson had two hits to go with four steals.

•Intermountain League: Timberlake (18-5, 14-0), which clinched its fifth straight league title Saturday, was too much for host Bonners Ferry (0-12, 0-8), winning 13-0. Afton Allred (13-1) tossed a one-hitter and went 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Tasha Palmer went 3 for 3 with five RBIs. … Visiting Kellogg (4-7, 3-6), behind four hits from Kresten Biche, downed Priest River (5-10, 3-9). Biche also delivered two runs batted in.

Boys soccer

Great Northern League: League-leading Cheney (10-1) got two assists and one goal from Xavier Day as the Blackhawks shut out visiting Riverside (4-7) 6-0. Austin Walker added one goal and one assist. … Pullman (8-2), behind two goals from Malte Lange, handled visiting Clarkston (5-6) 5-1. The Greyhounds outshot the Bantams 21-7. …West Valley (6-5), behind goals from Craig Norman and Bryer Reynolds, blanked visiting Colville (0-10) 2-0. …Deer Park (4-7) used an own goal to slip past Medical Lake (6-5) 1-0. A defender went to clear the ball, but instead of going out of bounds the ball went into the goal.
