The fallout continues around Paula Abdul’s announced departure from “American Idol”:

•Fox said that female pop stars will serve as guest judges for the Season Nine auditions starting today in Denver. First up: Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham and Katy Perry.

•Former “Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe, now with the network’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” has invited Abdul to “talk about what opportunities are out there.”

However, he adds: “I still don’t know that she’s going to leave ‘Idol.’ … Until (it) goes on the air, there’s always opportunities for renegotiations. Who knows what might happen.”

•Meanwhile, the late-night talk hosts are making hay of the situation, with Craig Ferguson suggesting on “The Late Late Show” that returning Abdul to “Idol” should be former President Bill Clinton’s next mission after helping free two journalists in North Korea.

Don’t walk this way

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler suffered head, neck and shoulder injuries in a tumble from the stage at a South Dakota show, and the audience thought it was part of his hipshaking act until he didn’t get up.

Tyler, 61, fell while dancing around after the sound system failed during the song “Love in an Elevator” on Wednesday night in Rapid City.

Jon & Kate minus viewers

Reality mom Kate Gosselin will appear on Monday’s “Today” show for her first TV interview since she and husband Jon announced their separation.

Monday’s return of new episodes of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” delivered around 4 million viewers, down from 10.6 million viewers who tuned in June 22 for the splitting-up episode.
