Auditions

Northeast Washington Arts Council – For speaking and singing parts in a patriotic musical to be performed the week of Veterans Day in November. Open to ages 6-16. Wednesday, 260 N. Oak St., Colville. Call (509) 684-4671.

“Chess in Concert” – Spokane Civic Theatre, Aug. 21, 6:30 p.m., at the theater, 1020 N. Howard St. Needed: 12-15 men and 12-15 women. Spokane Symphony Chorale – Auditions by appointment Aug. 23-24 to fill vacancies in all sections. Auditions will consist of a prepared solo of the participant’s choice (accompanist provided; bring two copies), vocalizations to determine range, one sight reading exercise, and imitations of short tonal passages and rhythms given by the conductor. Dog Days Music Workshops Guitar Workshop – For aspiring guitarists and singer-songwriters ages 12-18. Language of Music – How to listen to the audience, think of music as a conversation, develop a comfortable stage presence and more. Life is Music – Interactive class based on song form, theory, use of instrumentation and arrangement. The Opera Workshop – Students will listen to an aria being performed, then will sing and be critiqued. Also covers dealing with stage fright. All classes run simultaneously on Aug. 23, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at the Sand Creek Inn, 105 S. First Ave., Sandpoint. Tuition is $100 for each class (must choose one). The Spokane Novelists Group – Writers support/critique group, open to anyone with an interest in writing fiction. Amy Woodward Fisher World Day of Poetry Contest – Sponsored by Poetry Scribes of Spokane. Seeking original unpublished poems of 60 lines or fewer. Poets 18 and older may submit up to two poems in each category: rhymed and free verse.
