Baseball notebook: Victorino files report

Chicago police charged a 21-year-old man with two misdemeanor counts Thursday in connection with a beer-throwing incident that showered Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino.

John Macchione of Bartlett, Ill., was charged with one count of battery and one count of illegal conduct within a sports facility, according to police. They did not know if Macchione had an attorney. A man who answered the phone at a listing for a John Macchione in Bartlett hung up on a reporter seeking comment.

Victorino was hit by a cup of beer thrown from the bleachers while trying to catch a fly ball in the Phillies’ 12-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.

Yankees expand internet presence

The Yankees are expanding their broadband presence on the Internet.

The YES Network reached an agreement for games to be streamed live to Verizon’s FiOS television and broadband customers in the New York area starting today.

Verizon FiOS and Internet subscribers who already receive the YES Network can receive live streamed games for $29.95 for the rest of the season or $19.95 for a 30-day span.

Clearing the bases

Detroit Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello has dropped his appeal of a five-game suspension for hitting Boston’s Kevin Youkilis with a pitch. … Jeff Samardzija has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Samardzija is 1-2 with a 7.81 ERA in 17 appearances with the Cubs this season.
