Cleared A jury in Atlanta found Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall not guilty of misdemeanor battery against his former girlfriend, announcing its verdict Friday after about an hour of deliberations. Marshall had faced two counts of simple battery stemming from a March 4, 2008, argument with then-girlfriend Rasheedah Watley at the Atlanta condominium the couple shared.

Booted Villanova guard Reggie Redding has been kicked off the team for the fall semester two weeks after being charged with possession of marijuana. School officials say Redding will remain enrolled in classes and could return to the team in late December if coach Jay Wright and the athletic department approves.

Extended The College of Charleston said Bobby Cremins is sticking around. Cremins signed a two-year contract extension that keeps him with the Cougars through the 2013-14 season. Cremins is 65-37 with the Cougars. That includes a 27-9 mark last season.

Decertified The NCAA has decertified the eligibility of Oklahoma linebacker Mike Balogun, who joined the team last season after playing semipro football. Balogun can practice through Wednesday. Coach Bob Stoops said he may not be eligible after that.

Signed The Denver Nuggets, who lost Dahntay Jones and Linas Kleiza to free agency, have fulfilled one of coach George Karl’s offseason wishes with the re-signing of backup point guard Anthony Carter. Carter has averaged 5.2 points, 4.1 assists and 2.2 rebounds over his 10-year NBA career.

•The Montreal Canadiens signed right wing Matt D’Agostini to a one-year deal. D’Agostini will be paid less if he is sent to the minors this season. The 6-foot, 200-pound forward had 12 goals and nine assists in 53 games for the Canadiens last season.

Died Hall of Famer Ted “Teeder” Kennedy, who captained the Toronto Maple Leafs to five Stanley Cups, died Friday. He was 83. He died of congestive heart failure at a nursing home in his hometown of Port Colborne, Ontario. Kennedy spent 14 years in the NHL, all with the Maple Leafs. He was a five-time All-Star. The center was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966.
