WSU opens with shutout

Washington State rolled to a 3-0 women’s soccer victory over Idaho Friday in Pullman.

The 21st-ranked Cougars got first-half goals from freshman Brandi Vega, Kiersten Dallstream and Tiara Pittman (Mt. Spokane High).

The Cougars dominated the match with 21 shots to Idaho’s four, including a 10-0 advantage in the second half.

WSU has four straight shutouts dating back to last season.

The crowd of 1,007 at WSU was the Cougars’ third largest at home.

Baseball

Puget Sound defeated host Columbia Basin 7-2 in the semifinals of the Babe Ruth 16-18 World Series at Moses Lake.

Puget Sound will play Hammond, Ind., today for the championship at 1 p.m. at Larson Field. Hammond defeated San Gabriel, Calif., 3-2 in eight innings.
