Area Scouts attain Eagle Scout rank

Benjamin Boileau received the rank of Eagle Scout, for building a “Welcome” sign at the south entrance of Riverside State Park.
He is the son of Joe and Donna Boileau of Spokane and graduated from Shadle Park High School in 2009.
Kenneth Brandvold was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
Brandevold, a member of Troop 313, repaired and repainted benches used at Grant Elementary School for assemblies and P.E. classes.
He is a freshman at Spokane Valley High School and the son of Craig and Sally Brandvold of Spokane.
Nathan Dolan, a 2009 graduate of Mt. Spokane High School, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Dolan is a member of Troop 288.
For his project, he refurbished the children’s playground at Crosswind Church, 17302 N. Newport Highway in Mead. He rebuilt the playground equipment and added flower gardens. Dolan is the son of Tom and Valerie Dolan of Mead.
Bruce Graham, a Mt. Spokane High School senior , received the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 288.
To receive his rank, Graham landscaped, built a path and benches for outside worship services at Mead United Methodist Church.
He is the son of Mike and Coanne Graham of Chattaroy.
Matthew Hall and Benjamin Olvera of Troop 299 received the rank of Eagle Scout earlier this summer.
Hall built the first one-third of the lower biking, hiking and walking trail on the city of Coeur d’Alene’s Canfield Trail. Olvera built the second one-third of the lower trail for his project.
Hall graduated in 2009 from Lake City High School and is the son of Jeff and Wanda Hall, of Coeur d’Alene.
Olvera is the son of Steve Olvera and Jennifer and Donald Charney, all of Coeur d’Alene, and is a junior at LCHS.
Nick Kilburn, a member of Troop 288, received the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was a part of a community project that built a deck at Camp Spalding off the main office and medical building. The deck serves as a meeting and gathering place for camp residents and staff.
Kilburn graduated in 2009 from Mt. Spokane High School and is the son of Barry and Shai Kilburn of Colbert.
Nicholas Robertson, a member of Troop 272, received the Eagle Scout award after successfully holding a smoke detector check and replacement drive for members of the Corbin Senior Activity Center. He also visited Cub Scout packs to teach fire safety.
Robertson is a 2009 graduate of Shadle Park High School and the son of Tim and Lois Robertson of Spokane.
Parker Slater, a 2009 graduate of Gonzaga Prep, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
For his project, Slater built blue bird houses and placed them at Sprague Lake for the Bureau of Land Management. He is a member of Troop 313 and the son of Keith and Janie Slater of Spokane.
Chris Talda, a member of Troop 288, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
For his project, Talda installed pea gravel and a chain link fence around the playset at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert.
He is a junior at Mead High School and is the son of Tim and Marci Talda of Spokane.

Army National Guard Pvt. Steven Newbigging is the son of Tommy and Debbie Newbigging of Spokane Valley and graduated from the Institute for Extended Learning in 2008.
Army Pvt. Joseph Seymour is a 2009 graduate of University High School and is the son of Connie and Brad Seymour of Spokane.
Army National Guard Pvt. Aaron Morton is the son of Heather Morton of Spokane Valley and is a student at East Valley High School.
•Three area residents graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.
Army Pfc. Matthew Rodgers is the son of Sandra Rodgers and Todd Rodgers, both of Spokane.
Army Pvt. Reginald Tweed graduated in 2007 from Central Valley High School and is the son of Raymona Tweed of Spokane Valley.
Army Reserve Pvt. Timothy Viall is the son of Linda Shields and Tim Viall of Spokane and is a 2009 graduate of University High School.
•Two area residents graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
Army Reserve Pvt. Kenneth Smalley is the son of Cheryl Dellinger of Olympia and James Smalley of Spokane Valley. He graduated in 2008 from Auburn (Wash.) Senior High School.
Army Pvt. Dalton Whitfield graduated from Central Valley High School in 2009.
•Air Force Airman First Class Jack Kemp III has graduated from the Ground Radio Communications Equipment Apprentice Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss.
He is the son of Donna Kemp of Post Falls and Jack Kemp Jr. of Spokane Valley. He is a 2004 graduate of West Valley High School in Yakima.
•Kasie King graduated from the Army ROTC Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky.
She is the daughter of Ronn and Elesa King of Spokane and a student at Gonzaga University.
