CdA warming centers opening

From Staff Reports

A weather forecast projecting frigid temperatures has prompted the opening of two Coeur d’Alene warming centers.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho Warming Center opened Thursday night. The Fresh Start Emergency Warming Center intends to open Saturday night. Both expected to remain open until at least Tuesday, the organizations said in news releases.

St. Vincent’s center, 117 E. Walnut Ave., will open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Fresh Start, 1524 E. Sherman Ave., will open at 9 p.m. Saturday and has a capacity of 64 people. If it is full, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 501 E. Wallace Ave., will open, with capacity for 40 more people, the release said.

The center will be open as long as the temperature or wind chill remains below 15 degrees.

For more information, call Jeff Conroy of St. Vincent’s at (208) 215-6285 or Howard Martinson at Fresh Start at (208) 661-1524.
