NC cruises past Davis
Brigid Rypein scored 14 points with nine rebounds and Tara Van Weerdhuizen had 13 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks as North Central (1-1) earned its first win of the season in style, beating Davis 64-27 on Friday at North Central.
The Indians led early, turning an 18-2 lead after one quarter into a 28-point advantage by halftime, and kept rolling in the second half.
Ferris 63, Moses Lake 52: Katara Belton-Sharp and Kiara King each scored eight points with eight rebounds in the Saxons’ (1-1) victory over the Chiefs at Ferris. The Saxons scored 19 points in the third quarter to build an 11-point lead they would hold though the fourth.
Chiawana 44, Central Valley 34: The Bears (0-1) won the battle of the boards against the Riverhawks, but struggled to keep up with their fast-paced attack – led by 15 points from Hayley Hodgins – in a loss in Pasco. The Bears shot just 11 of 39 from the floor, but were led by Brooke Gallaway’s 14 points while Loree Hill added 11 boards.
Curlew 47, Inchelium 24: Playing her first year of high school basketball as a senior, reserve Amanda Keeley came off the bench to lead the Cougars (2-0) with 12 points in a win over the Hornets (0-2) in Curlew. Anissa Jerred scored 18 for Inchelium in the loss.
Newport 52, Medical Lake 46: Sierra Pancho scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half and the Grizzlies (2-0) held down the Cardinals (0-2) offensively, coming back from down three at the half to earn the win in Newport. Hayley Odell added nine points and 15 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
Republic 52, Kettle Falls 43: The Tigers had three players finish with at least nine rebounds, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 55-33 in Republic. They were led with 17 from Alyssa Stout, who also had 17 points.
With a one-point lead at the half, the Tigers forced the Bulldogs into foul trouble in the second, shooting 33 free throws and converting on 16 of them.
Bonners Ferry 62, Chewelah 33: Emily Pauls led three players in double figures with 11 points and the Badgers (3-0) used their size advantage to run away with the win against the Cougars (0-2) in Chewelah.
Lakeside 54, Reardan 51: Leslie Stillar scored seven of her 12 points in the third quarter and Lexie Zappone had five of her 15 in the fourth and the Eagles (2-0) turned a six-point halftime deficit against the Indians (1-1) into a win in Reardan. The Indians took the lead into the half, despite falling behind 10-0 early in the first quarter. They were led by Chantel Heath and Kelsey Moos, who combined for 29 points.
Liberty 44, Selkirk 33: The Lancers (2-0) built an 11-point half time lead against the Rangers (0-3), led by Katra Browning’s 12 points and 11 rebounds. That lead held up as both teams played even in the second half, scoring 18 points apiece.
Freeman 59, Northwest Christian 27: Megan McIntyre’s 14 points led the Scotties (3-0), who jumped out to an 18-8 first-quarter lead before rolling to a victory over the Crusaders (1-1) in Colbert.
St. John-Endicott 55, Dayton 29: Trisha Luft scored 11 points and snagged 12 rebounds and the Eagles (4-0) forced 46 turnovers to beat the visiting Bulldogs.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 61, Moses Lake Christian 6: Nikki Osborne had 16 points, eight rebounds and five steals and Madeline Isaak added 14 points and five steals as the Warriors (2-0) cruised at home against the Lions.
Columbia 74, Wilbur-Creston 20: The Lions (2-1) had four players finish in double figures, with Krista Colvin leading the way with 16 points, seven assists and three steals, and they held the Wildcats (0-2) to just three field goals in Hunters.
Potlatch 24, Garfield-Palouse 22: Tiana Allen had 11 points as the visiting Loggers beat the Vikings (0-1) in a game that was tied at the end of the third quarter 17-17.
St. George’s 40, Riverside Christian 23: The Dragons (2-0) held the Crusaders to 10 points through three quarters and received 13 points from Chessey Thomas and nine rebounds from Katie Johnson in Yakima.
Valley Christian 42, Sprague-Harrington 33: Katie Worley hauled in 20 rebounds to go with 12 points, seven steals and three assists and the Panthers (1-1) scored their first win of the season against the Falcons (0-3) at Valley Christian.
Touchet 36, LaCrosse-Washtucna 33 : Carly Frazier led with 11 points and the Indians outscored the Tigercats (0-1) 13-2 in the second quarter and held on for the road victory.
Rosalia vs. Cusick: The Spartans and Panthers postponed their game and will make it up Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. in Cusick.
