Sasquatch men take fourth at Crossover

Zach Humphrey scored 21 points, all on 3-pointers, and the CC Spokane Sasquatch beat the Pierce Raiders 84-68 in the fourth-place game at the NWAACC Crossover tournament Sunday at SCC.

Chaz Johnson led the Sasquatch (9-2) with 10 assists, while Danny Marshall added 16 points.

The Raiders (6-4) were paced by 16 points apiece from Michael Stepovich and Brandon Thomas.

In other action, Chemeketa (8-0) battled South Puget Sound (7-2) for an 88-74 victory in the championship game, and Treasure Valley CC (6-3) handled Portland (4-4) 103-82 in the third-place matchup.

College women

Ally Wade scored 20 points, Lauren Sims added 16 and the Long Beach State 49ers cruised to a 65-53 non-conference win over the University of Idaho Vandals at Long Beach, Calif.

Thanks in part to 14 first-half turnovers by the Vandals (1-11), the 49ers (4-7) jumped out to a 31-20 halftime lead and never looked back.

Bianca Cheever and Rachele Kloke each scored 15 points to lead the Vandals.

Kloke also added a team-high 10 rebounds.

Skagit Valley 55, CC Spokane 44: Keri Arendse scored 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the host Cardinals defeated the Sasquatch at the Skagit Valley Tournament in Mt. Vernon, Wash.

Despite 20 turnovers, Skagit Valley (5-3) controlled the game with stingy defense, holding CCS (6-2) to 25 percent shooting from the field.

The Sasquatch made only two of 20 3-point attempts and shot 16 for 29 from the free-throw line.

Megan Eisenmann led Spokane with 12 points before fouling out midway through the second half.

Junior Hockey

Dylan Tappe scored two goals and added an assist, and the Spokane Braves beat the Beaver Valley Nitehawks 8-5 in KIJHL action at Fruitvale, British Columbia.

The Braves (22-15-0-2) scored three quick goals in the first period, each of which was assisted by Guisseppe Dippolito.

Two Nitehawks’ (18-14-1-1) goals midway through the first tightened the score to 3-2, but Uriah Machuga, Chip Petrino and Jesse Collins scored in succession for Spokane to push the lead to 6-2.

After two Beaver Valley goals shrunk the lead to two, Tappe put the game out of reach with two consecutive scores in the final five minutes of the third.
