Loper, Trojans heat up in win over Central Valley

Katelyn Loper did most of her damage for the Post Falls girls basketball team in the first and fourth quarters, scoring 20 of her 27 points to lead PF to a 54-44 non-league victory over Central Valley Tuesday at CV.

Loper went 7 of 15 from the floor, adding two 3-pointers for the Trojans (8-3). Despite trailing by just six at the half, thanks to 12 of Loree Hill’s 19 points, the Bears (4-3) could not put together a run to take the lead. Central Valley made just 16 of 57 shots from the floor.

Other non-league games

Wenatchee 60, Ferris 48: Michaela George led four players with at least 14 points, scoring 18 for the Panthers (6-1) against the Saxons (1-7, 0-3) in Wenatchee. Haley Sieverding led the Saxons with 10 points.

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 74, Rogers 19: Kendra Lahue scored 18 points with three buckets from beyond the arc, Leslie Stillar added 16 points and eight boards and the Eagles (7-1) held the Pirates (0-8) to 15-percent shooting from the field at Rogers.

Newport 60, Deer Park 49: After scoring just one point in the first half, Miranda Frederick scored 13 in the second, including 11 in the third quarter to lead the Grizzlies (6-2) to a win over the Stags (1-3) in Newport. Deadlocked at 26-26 after the first half, the Grizzlies outscored the Stags 34-23 after the break.

Springdale 70, Chewelah 35: Kelsey Fiztgerald scored 11 points with 14 rebounds and Shelbea Rainbolt chimed in with 11 points and seven steals as the Chargers (8-0) used a full-court press to force 23 steals to beat the Cougars (0-9) in Springdale.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 68, Liberty 36: Madeline Isaak led all scorers with 29 points, Nikki Osborne added 15 and the Warriors (7-0) shot 50 percent from the floor to beat the host Lancers (4-2).

Asotin 43, LaCrosse-Washtucna 36: Shelby Barnes tallied 19 points and the Panthers (4-3) used a 17-9 run in the second quarter to take control against the host Tigercats (2-4). Zara Reynolds added 14 for the Panthers.

Clark Fork 50, Coeurd’Alene Charter 27: Despite shooting just 23 of 60 from the floor, the Wampus Cats (5-4) soundly knocked off the Panthers (2-5) behind Shaina Gustafson’s 10 points, eight rebounds and 15 steals in Coeur d’Alene.

Cusick 52, Rosalia 48: Andrea Heinen scored 18 points with eight boards to power the Panthers (1-5) past the Spartans (4-4) in Cusick. The Spartans hit nine 3-pointers, led by five from Briann Maley for all of her 15 points, while Katelyn Maley added 16 points. Courtney Montgomery’s basket with 10 seconds remaining gave the Panthers a four-point lead they held the rest of the way.

Colton 53, Genesee 36: Kelsey Moser led all scorers with 15 points, Haley Moser and Mollie Kramer each added 12 and the Wildcats (5-0) held the Bulldogs (4-7) to seven first-half points in Colton.

Panorama League

St. George’s 57, Wellpinit 38: The Dragons (6-1, 4-0) opened things up in the third quarter, outscoring the Redskins (4-4, 3-1) 21-7 in the frame, thanks in large part to seven of Ashlin Sturbaum’s 10 points. Chessey Thomas led the Dragons with 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Selkirk 78, Northport 33: Daneen Green led four Rangers (4-6, 3-3) in double figures with 19 points in their blowout victory over the Mustangs (2-7, 1-5) in Northport. The Rangers forced 12 Northport turnovers in the opening period, building a 23-4 lead.

Bi-County League

Reardan 66, Northwest Christian 41: Lauren Shulz scored a season-high 23 points, including 10 in the second quarter for the Indians (5-1, 3-0), who outscored the Crusaders (3-5, 1-1) 35-19 in the second half in Reardan. Kelsey Moos and Chantel Heath joined Shulz in double figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Valley Christian 40, Lind-Ritzville 38: Lindy Riggan had 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and Katie Worley added 12 with 15 rebounds as the Panthers (4-2, 1-1) protected a two-point lead throughout the fourth quarter to hold off the Broncos (1-5, 0-3) at Valley Christian.

Colfax 74, Davenport 37: After committing eight turnovers and scoring just five points in the first quarter, the Bulldogs (4-0, 3-0) jumped out big, scoring 69 points the rest of the way to beat the Gorillas (3-4, 0-3) in Colfax. Kayla Johnson did the bulk of her scoring in the decisive second and third quarters, scoring 30 of her 32 in those frames to build a 32-point lead going into the fourth.
