Warriors reach state

The St. Michael’s girls are going to the state tournament for the first time.

Katie Drass scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half and her three-point play with 40 seconds left gave St. Michael’s the lead for good in a state-clinching 39-35 girls basketball victory over the Curlew Cougars in District 7 1B play at Riverside on Tuesday night.

Drass’ crossover hook shot in the lane and free throw put the Warriors (10-12) up 37-34. Curlew’s Noel Meyer made the second of two free throws after being fouled on a layin attempt with 23 seconds left. Katie Urann put the game away for St. Michael’s with two free throws with 9 seconds remaining.

Urann had five steals and five blocked shots for the Warriors.

St. Michael’s will face Columbia (Hunters) at 12:30 Saturday at Deer Park for 3-4 seeding to state.

Sprague-Harrington and Almira/Coulee-Hartline will play at 7:30 for top seeding. Curlew (9-14) was eliminated.

Columbia (Hunters) 45, Cusick 41: Mackenzie Parrow scored 12 points and Lindsay Loe chipped in 10 and the Lions (18-4) clinched a State 1B playoff berth with a victory over the Panthers (15-6) at Deer Park.

District 9 2B girls

Garfield-Palouse 59, Waitsburg-Prescott 35: Tianna Woltering scored 21 points and Shealyn Weagraff added 17 to lead the Vikings (15-6) past the visiting Cardinals.

Garfield-Palouse plays Dayton at Walla Walla CC on Monday at 7 p.m.

Dayton 51, Tekoa-Oakesdale 41: Kelsey Warren scored 13 points and the Bulldogs beat the Nighthawks (11-10) at Dayton.

Shelby Puckett scored 20 points to lead Tekoa-Oakesdale, which will face Waitsburg-Prescott in a loser-out game Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Colfax.

In other tournament games, Pomeroy defeated Liberty Christian 54-28 and Asotin downed DeSales 51-44.

DeSales will play Liberty Christian in a loser-out game at Colfax on Saturday. Asotin and Pomeroy play on Monday at Walla Walla Community College.

District 6 1A boys

Brewster 62, Lake Roosevelt 59: At Omak, Wade Gebbers scored 24 points to help the Bears (18-4) past the Raiders (12-7), who got 21 points from Ed Wolfe.

District 7 1B boys

Cusick 70, Odessa 46: Tyler Edwards scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half and also pulled down 11 rebounds and the Panthers (17-5) clinched a state tournament berth with a victory over the Tigers (7-12) at Deer Park.

Spencer Shanholtzer and Louie Bluff chipped in 12 points apiece and Riley Bauer had 11 for Cusick.

The Panthers face Wellpinit Saturday at 2:15 at Deer Park for 3-4 seeding to state. Curlew and Almira/Coulee-Hartline play for top seeding at 7.

Travis King paced Odessa, which saw its season end, with 19 points.

Wellpinit 58, Inchelium 48: Cody Flett scored 21 points and the Redskins (20-2) earned a state berth with a victory over the Hornets (6-16) at Riverside.

Kennedy Seyler added 12 points and Drake Wynne 11 for Wellpinit.

Tony Louie and Brandon Kohler scored 18 points apiece in the Hornets’ season-ending game.

Idaho 4A Region I boys

Moscow 56, Lakeland 51: The host Bears (9-10) advanced to the regional title game with a victory over the Hawks (7-13).

Lakeland will play at Sandpoint on Saturday at 7 with the winner of that game earning a date with Moscow on Tuesday.

Idaho 2A District I-II boys

Grangeville 47, Coeur d’Alene Charter 43: Nels Solberg scored 18 points to help the Bulldogs get past the Panthers (11-10) at Grangeville.

Wes Billingslea scored 13 to lead Coeur d’Alene Charter.
