Fans aren’t fooled

The Spokesman-Review

In regard to the Alex Rodriguez steroid issue, I don’t believe he told the whole truth.

The “I was too young and immature” statement on more than one occasion was an insult to every 24- and 25-year-old. His not knowing what he took was a steroid was also and insult.

When Rodriguez was asked his opinion if what he did was cheating, he said he would leave that up to others to decide. That’s not giving your personal opinion … it’s pure and simply being dishonest with yourself.

If Rodriguez wants this to go away a lot faster, if he wants true forgiveness, let him ask MLB to take away his accomplishments while he was in Texas … hits, home runs, stolen bases, on-base, slugging and fielding percentages. Or at the very least, rescind the $30 million offer if he breaks the season home run record.

Rodriguez has 10 to 15 more active years in baseball. He’ll invariably still break records. If you don’t make the effort to be truthful and apologetic, Rodriguez, you’re just another MLB steroid user who knows he put one past the fans. But we know better.
