Jon Brockman scored on the first two possessions of overtime and finished with 21 points, and No. 21 Washington survived a wild finish to regulation and kept control of the Pac-10 men’s basketball race with a 73-70 victory over No. 14 Arizona State on Thursday night.

The Huskies (21-7, 12-4) moved 11/2 games clear of everyone else in the conference with only two league games remaining on their schedule, and snapped the Sun Devils’ five-game winning streak.

Brockman scored on the low block twice against ASU’s Jeff Pendergraft, who had four fouls, to start overtime. Justin Dentmon, whose gaffe at the end of regulation helped the Sun Devils force overtime, added six free throws in overtime.

Pendergraft had 24 points and 13 rebounds for the Sun Devils (21-6, 10-5), while James Harden added 19 points, four points after halftime, and he fouled out in overtime.

It was a crazy finish to both regulation and overtime for the Huskies, who snapped an eight-game losing streak in overtime games. The Huskies’ last overtime victory came four years ago against the Sun Devils in the Pac-10 tournament.

But this overtime victory was far more important for the Huskies and their hopes of gaining the school’s first outright conference title since winning the Pacific Coast Conference in 1953.

Much of that is because of Dentmon, who struggled with his shot all game but scored Washington’s final five points of regulation and was 6 of 8 on free throws in overtime.

Dentmon finished with 16 points. Quincy Pondexter added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies.
