NIC men edge Snow

Shawn Henderson made only 4 of 16 field-goal attempts, but he hit 7 of 8 free throws on his way to a team-high 16 points and the North Idaho Cardinals outlasted the Snow Badgers 70-67 Friday night to claim a Scenic West Athletic Conference men’s basketball victory at Ephraim, Utah.

The victory keeps the Cardinals in the hunt for the SWAC title with one regular-season game remaining tonight, also at Snow (18-11, 5-9).

Renado Parker added 14 points and Melvin Jones 11 for North Idaho (26-3, 11-3).

Donnie Lao had 19 points, Everton de Araujo 11 and Cameron Evans 10 for Snow.

The Cardinals rushed out to an 11-point halftime lead while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor.

The second half was a different matter with NIC being held to seven field goals in 24 attempts for 29.2 percent.

Women

Idaho 63, Hawaii 60: The Vandals (12-13, 9-5 Western Athletic Conference) beat the Warriors (6-21, 3-11) at Honolulu.

Snow 75, North Idaho 69: Torie Nenbee scored 14 points and had nine rebounds to help the Badgers (17-12, 8-6) upend the Cardinals (22-7, 9-5) in Scenic West Athletic Conference play at Ephraim, Utah.

Bianca Cheever led North Idaho with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Lauren Boyd-Miller added 13 points.
