N.M. Highlands hires ex-EWU aide

Justin Wagar, an assistant at Eastern Washington University last season, has been named head women’s soccer coach at New Mexico Highlands University, an NCAA Division II school in Las Vegas, N.M.

Wagar, a native of the Tri-Cities area, had head coaching experience at Brigham Young-Hawaii, his alma mater, and Utah Valley State University before joining the Eagles in the summer.

Mitch Reffett, a Central Washington senior defensive tackle from Moses Lake, is one of seven Wildcats named to the Football Gazette All-Super Region Four team.

The Central co-captain, who led Wildcats defensive linemen with 49 tackles, including 121/2 for loss, was a third-team selection.

Chelsi Shaw, Puget Sound’s senior women’s basketball guard from Metaline Falls, had season highs of five 3-pointers and 17 points in the Loggers’ 69-59 win over Luther College last weekend. She is averaging 6.0 points, making a team-leading 14 3-pointers in 31 attempts for the 7-3 Loggers.
