Henderson guides No. 2 Duke men past Florida State
Gerald Henderson scored a career-high 25 points Saturday, leading No. 2 Duke to a 66-58 victory over host Florida State.
The Blue Devils (14-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) ran off the first nine points of the second half during a 41-11 run to build their largest lead of the game, 46-21 with 12:45 left.
Toney Douglas led Florida State (13-3, 0-1) with 18 points.
The first half was believed to be one of the lowest scoring in the ACC since a shot clock was introduced in the 1985-86 season. Duke led 19-14 at the break, making just five field goals.
•Price sparks UConn: A.J. Price hit 5 of 8 3-pointers and scored 22 points and the No. 5 Connecticut Huskies (14-1, 3-1 Big East) posted an 81-72 victory over the host Cincinnati Bearcats (10-6, 0-3).
•Griffin leads Sooners: Blake Griffin had 29 points and 15 rebounds in a rare game against single coverage, helping No. 6 Oklahoma (15-1) open Big 12 Conference play with a 61-53 win over host Kansas State (11-4).
•Harangody too much: Luke Harangody scored 30 points to lead No. 13 Notre Dame (12-3, 3-1 Big East) to an 88-79 win over Seton Hall (9-7, 0-4). The Irish tied a Big East record with their 20th straight league win at home and lead the nation with 45 straight home wins.
•Louisville upsets Villanova: Terrence Williams scored on a drive with 7.4 seconds left to give No. 23 Louisville (11-3, 2-0 Big East) the lead, and No. 18 Villanova (13-3, 1-2) missed two shots down low in the final seconds as the Cardinals held on for a 61-60 victory in Philadelphia.
•UConn women roll: Renee Montgomery scored 28 points to lead top-ranked Connecticut (15-0, 2-0 Big East) to an 85-55 win over host West Virginia (10-5, 0-3).
•Gant on target for A&M: Danielle Gant scored 22 points, going 10 for 10 from the field, and No. 3 Texas A&M (13-1) withstood a late Missouri (9-5) rally to beat the Tigers 62-56 in the Big 12 Conference women’s opener for both teams in Columbia, Mo.
•Longhorns upset: Jordan Murphree scored 19 and host Texas Tech (10-4) posted a 65-62 women’s win over No. 8 Texas (12-3) in a Big 12 opener.

Raich finishes first
Benjamin Raich of Austria won a World Cup giant slalom in Adelboden, Switzerland, his third win in four years at the site.
American Ted Ligety finished ninth, while compatriot Bode Miller skied out on the first run.
•Maze tops women’s race: Tina Maze of Slovenia won a women’s World Cup giant slalom in Maribor, Slovenia, and Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. finished seventh to gain ground in the overall standings.
•De Le Rue ends drought: Xavier De Le Rue of France and Sandra Frei of Switzerland won World Cup snowboardcrosses in Bad Gastein, Austria.
Sandpoint’s Nate Holland advanced to the men’s final round.
•Horgmo beats White: Norway’s Torstein Horgmo edged Olympic gold medalist Shaun White in the men’s snowboard slopestyle final and Jamie Anderson won the women’s event at Mount Snow in West Dover, Vt., in the second stop of the inaugural Winter Dew Tour.

Defending champion Maria Sharapova has been forced to withdraw from the Australian Open due to her slower-than-expected recovery following a shoulder injury.

Jazz drop Pistons
Mehmet Okur scored 20 of his 22 points in the first half against his former team and the Utah Jazz beat the Detroit Pistons for the eighth straight tine, 99-82 in Salt Lake City. Former Eastern Washington standout Rodney Stuckey led Detroit with 19 points.
•Bobcats beat Wizards: Raja Bell scored 19 points, Boris Diaw added 18 and ex-Gonzaga star Adam Morrison scored 11 on 4-of-6 shooting to lead the Charlotte Bobcats to a 92-89 win over the host Washington Wizards.
•Roy returns and Blazers win: LaMarcus Aldridge had 26 points, and Brandon Roy added 19 in his return from a hamstring injury to help the host Portland Trail Blazers beat the Golden State Warriors 113-100.

Red Sox sign Saito
Former Los Angeles Dodgers closer Takashi Saito agreed to a one-year deal with Boston, giving the Red Sox another veteran right-hander in their bullpen.
•Braves close in on Kawakami: The Atlanta Braves have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with 33-year-old Japanese star right-hander Kenshin Kawakami.
•Sorenstam marries McGee: Annika Sorenstam and Mike McGee, the son of former PGA Tour player Jerry McGee, were married, four weeks after the Swedish golf star ended her Hall of Fame career.
•Ogilvy in control: Geoff Ogilvy ran off three straight birdies on the back nine and shot an 8-under-par 65 to take a six-stroke lead over Justin Leonard and D.J. Trahan at the PGA’s Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii.
