Late layup gives Liberty win over Lind-Ritzville
Liberty’s Trever Andersen broke Lind-Ritzville’s full-court press and fed teammate Jordan Green for the winning layup Saturday night as the Lancers (5-6, 2-3) edged the visiting Broncos (6-5, 2-4) 45-44 in a Bi-County League 2B showdown.
Anderson flirted with a triple-double in the game, finishing with 10 points and 13 rebounds to go along with his nine assists. Green’s winning bucket gave him a team-high 11 points for the game, while Jamie Stevenson, whose fade-away 18-footer had given Lind-Ritzville a 44-43 lead with 15 seconds remaining, finished with a game-high 14 points for the Broncos.
Cory Whitmore finished with 12 points and Colby Olson added 11 for Lind-Ritzville.
Reardan 49, Valley Christian 36: Mike Matson finished with a game-high 16 points and teammate Grant Schultz added 10 as the Indians (5-7, 3-3) rolled over the visiting Panthers (1-9, 0-5), who remained winless in league play, despite Gunner Kreese’s 11 points.
Northwest Christian 55, Davenport 39: Chase Ramey pumped in 22 points, with nine of them coming in the final quarter, and the unbeaten Crusaders (12-0, 5-0) went on to breeze past the visiting Gorillas (7-3, 3-2). Matt Zandbergen finished with 11 points for the winners, while teammate Jared Descoteaux added eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Josh Zeiler scored 12 points in a losing cause for Davenport.
Panorama League
St. George’s 67, Cusick 42: Connor Deife knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points in leading the visiting Dragons (6-4, 5-0) to a convincing win over the Panthers (10-2, 7-3).
The win kept St. George’s unbeaten in league play and within striking range of league leader Wellpinit in the Panorama standings.
St. George’s made 13 3-pointers in the game, while holding Cusick to just 15 second-half points.
Sully Blake finished with 11 points for the winners, who also got 10 from Grant Evans. Spencer Shanholtzer led Cusick’s scoring with 13 points. Teammate Louie Bluff added 12.
Wellpinit 89, Curlew 73: Kennedy Seyler fired in 24 points and teammate Drake Wynne added 22 in leading the visiting Redskins (9-1, 7-0) to an easy win over the Cougars (9-5, 6-4), who wasted the 34-point scoring outburst of Jordan Wakefield.
Curlew also got 22 points from Ethan Mannick, but couldn’t match Wellpinit’s scoring balance, which included 20 points from Cody Flett, who scored 10 of his in the Redskins’ 25-point second quarter.
Selkirk 68, St. Michael’s 29: Zach Jensen scored a team-high 17 points and teammate Colton Enyeart stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 14 assists and seven steals as the Rangers (10-2, 4-1) leveled the visiting Warriors (1-9, 1-7) at Ione. St. Michael’s got 11 points from Kevin Johnson. Jensen finished 7 for 8 from the field and Selkirk shot 49 percent from the floor as a team, while winning the rebounding battle by a 34-21 margin.
Republic 47, Columbia (Hunters) 41: Jesse Beck poured in a game-high 23 points, with eight of them coming in the second period, and teammate Tyler Haswell hit a couple of key free throws late in the game as the Tigers (2-10, 1-6) picked up their first league win of the year by turning back the visiting Lions (1-9, 1-7). Columbia was paced by Jay Curd’s 19 points. Beck also finished with a team-high 10 rebounds for Republic.
Springdale 54, Northport 43: Chris Bossio went off for a game-high 22 points and teammate Sam Howard added 14 as the visiting Chargers 8-4, 4-1) brushed aside the Mustangs (2-9, 2-5). Bossio scored eight of his points in the third quarter, while Marseilles DeAugero finished with 12 points to pace Northport’s offense.
Intermountain League
Orofino 47, Timberlake 39: Derek Puckett scored a team-high 11 points and grabbed six rebounds as the visiting Maniacs (3-3, 1-1) picked up their first league win by outlasting the Tigers (3-7, 1-2) at Spirit Lake. Trevor Bansemer’s 10 points led Timberlake.
North Star League
Wallace 64, Lakeside (Plummer) 25: Jared Bilaske erupted for 22 points, ran down 10 rebounds and handed out five assists in powering the league-leading Miners (4-4, 2-0) past the visiting Knights (2-8, 1-2), who scored only 10 second-half points. Nick Arthun finished with 14 points for Wallace, which shot 51 percent from the field and committed only six turnovers.
Non-league
Coeur d’Alene 46, Glacier 39: The Vikings used their collective long-range shooting touch to knock down nine 3-pointers and went on to hold off visiting Glacier. Curtis Reno paced CdA (7-6) with 19 points, while teammate Devon Austin added 13. Conner Williams led the Vikings with 11 rebounds, while Deon Watson grabbed nine and blocked three shots.
Grangeville 64, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy 55: Taylor Kunkel scored 19 points and teammate Nik Solberg added 14 as visiting Grangeville rallied past the Panthers (5-6), who got 18 points and 12 rebounds from Mike Mitchell, along with 17 points and 10 rebounds from Bob Schrack.
Troy 60, Kootenai 41: Jake Zarpentine scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Kootenai, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Warriors (2-8) from losing to the visiting Trojans, the defending state champion, at Harrison.
LaCrosse-Washtucna 46, Touchet 36: The Tigercats (2-6) outscored visiting Touchet 19-7 in the final period to post a comeback win. Beaux Martin finished with 17 points for the winners, while teammate Seth Weekes added 11.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 61, Colfax 52: Senior Kyle Tucker tossed in 25 points and ran down 10 rebounds in leading the Warriors (9-3) past the visiting Bulldogs (6-5) at Coulee City. Freshman Derek Isaak added 15 points for ACH, while Ryan Conrad led a trio of double-figure scorers for Colfax with 12 points. Tanner Gay finished with 11 points for the Bulldogs, while teammate Alex Teade added 10.
Tri-Cities Prep 61, Colton 36: Will Hoppes scored 17 points and teammate Andrew LeBrun added 14 as the Jaguars proved to be rude hosts to the visiting Wildcats (1-6). Nick Heitstuman’s 12 points led Colton.
Garfield-Palouse 60, Liberty Christian 43: The visiting Vikings (11-1) took advantage of a balanced scoring attack and 26 Liberty Christian turnovers to crush the Patriots. Jordan Palmer, Todd Pinter and Michael Jacobs each finished with 10 points for Gar-Pal.
Sandpoint 62, Bonners Ferry 41: Stefan Buratto had 14 points and four steals, and teammate Tanner French added 12 points as the visiting Bulldogs (1-6) picked up their first win of the year by shelling the Badgers (2-6).
Sandpoint outrebounded Bonners 31-22 and came up with 15 steals. BF’s Miguel Mendez scored eight points.
