Landis ready to pedal

Floyd Landis is coming back to cycling, and said his sport will be better for it.

Landis was stripped of his 2006 Tour de France victory following a doping scandal and protracted fight in courts around the world. His two-year ban ends this week.

He will ride for the Ouch cycling team and debut at the Tour of California next month.

Team wants forfeit victory

A high school girls team in Dallas that beat an opponent 100-0 has a case of blowout remorse.

The winning school now says it wants to do the right thing by seeking a forfeit and apologizing for the margin of victory.

“It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened,” the head of the school said on The Covenant School’s Web site.

He added that Covenant has made “a formal request to forfeit the game recognizing that a victory without honor is a great loss.”

Covenant, a private Christian school in Dallas, defeated Dallas Academy 100-0 last week. Covenant was up 59-0 at halftime.

A parent who attended the game told The Associated Press that Covenant continued to make 3-pointers – even in the fourth quarter.

She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

Your chance to be in NFL

The first time Michael Irvin watched “American Idol,” he loved the concept of giving undiscovered singers the chance to become stars. Now Irvin is doing the same for NFL wannabes.

The Hall of Fame receiver is launching a reality TV show in which 12 “football neophytes” will compete for an impressive grand prize: a spot on the Dallas Cowboys’ camp roster.

“I don’t know if you can walk upon any group of guys that wouldn’t say they dreamed of playing in the NFL when they were playing in their front yard,” Irvin told The Associated Press. “So we’re going to take a group of guys from their front yard, dwindle them to one and give that guy the opportunity of a lifetime.”

The Cowboys confirmed that one of their 80 roster spots will go to the show’s winner.
