Garlic Jim’s pizza store coming to Coeur d’Alene

It’s hard to not divulge the specialty without telling the name of the place. Garlic Jim’s Famous Gourmet Pizza plans for its first outlet in the Inland Northwest to be in Coeur d’Alene.

Yes, featuring pizza with garlic (and homemade sauces and fresh cheeses and dough), the store will open later this summer in the 2,215-square- foot space formerly occupied by Wheat Montana in the minimall in the northwest corner of Highway 95 and Haycraft Avenue.

With its headquarters in Everett, the company has 38 outlets in six states. Twenty-four are in Western Washington.

Its menu (check www.garlicjims.com) offers 12 pizzas, chicken wings, salads, breads, cinnamon sticks, beverages and ice cream. A new option is gluten-free crust.

Meanwhile, Clark-Pacific Realty of Spokane, which owns the building, is clearing the lot to the north for another building.

Owner Marshall Clark said it won’t be built until enough space has been pre-leased. Contact him at (509) 325-3333.

W Cleaners opens near Costco

Professional dry-cleaning and laundry services using “more environmentally friendly processes” are offered at W Cleaners, now open in the minimall southwest of Costco at 3524 Government Way.

Owner Gardner Wilcox opened a W Cleaners in Ponderay (next to Wal-Mart) in 2007 and the Coeur d’Alene store in June.

He’s been in Sandpoint since 1976.

“We’re all about first-class service with equipment that is more environmentally friendly and a loyalty rewards program,” Wilcox said. “Membership has its benefits.”

W Cleaners has 11 employees. Coeur d’Alene hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, 9 to 6 Saturdays and 10 to 6 Sundays; phone (208) 667-8383. Ponderay hours are 7 to 6:30 weekdays and 9 to 3 Sundays; phone (208) 263-8383. Check www.wcleaners.com.

Barnyard Market near Fred Meyer

Earth-friendly products and specialty foods are offered at the Barnyard Market that opened recently at the Meadow Ranch southwest of Fred Meyer in Coeur d’Alene.

Located on Howard Avenue west of Highway 95, the market has 25 vendors and is seeking more, especially on-site specialty foods, according to coordinator Abby Henning. Vendors rent 100-square-foot spaces for $20. Contact her at (208) 704-4219 or shabbyabby1@gmail.com.

Barnyard Market hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Fridays through Sept. 4.

This week’s tidbits

•Authentic Mexican cuisine is offered at the new Taco Los Panchos stand in front of JSM Pawn (formerly a Subway building) on Fourth Street just south of Interstate 90. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 to 6 Sundays. Phone (208) 704-7123.

•North Idaho Fitness has gone out of business in Sunset Mall.

•A bit more on last week’s Disneyland mention. They might have to change the name of the delightful boat ride “It’s a Small World After All.” The channel there had to be dredged deeper because the customers have become too heavy.

Perhaps that’s also the reason the huge canoe in front of us got stuck and both boats had to reverse to the beginning in the Jungle Cruise ride.

Neighbor Mike Wimmer’s family suggested the park place a greater emphasis on its “Pilates of the Caribbean” ride.

•Watch for a future traffic light at the Howard and Kathleen intersection. Hopefully it will include right-turn lanes. It’s too bad the new access road from neighboring Fred Meyer doesn’t.

You can sit at the single exit lane for quite a while.
