July sun keeps shining

More warm summer weather is in store this week with highs mostly in the upper 80s to lower 90s and the chance of precipitation near zero. The National Weather Service said it expects sunny conditions throughout the week with a chance of cumulus clouds forming near the mountains of the region. The forecast calls for highs today of 93 in downtown Spokane, 90 in Spokane Valley, 93 in Post Falls and 91 in Coeur d’Alene. An upper-level low pressure system that brought thunderstorms to the region for the past several days has migrated to the southeast and is ending its influence on the region’s weather, forecasters said. In its place, a strong ridge of higher air pressure is established along the Pacific coast and will cause air to flow into the Inland Northwest from the north. That will prevent a buildup of heat that had been forecast last week, and keep highs in the upper 80s to middle 90s. Breezy conditions may occur Tuesday evening from a cool Canadian high dropping southward along the east side of the Rocky Mountains, forecasters said. Normal temperatures in Spokane for this time of year are 84 for highs and 56 for lows. At 7 a.m., temperatures were in the middle to upper 60s with 68 at Spokane International Airport, 66 at Coeur d’Alene Airport, 66 at Sandpoint, 67 at Deer Park and 63 at Pullman.
