Roundup: Mt. Spokane bows out

Mt. Spokane’s stay at the AA American Legion State Tournament ended Tuesday with a 5-3 loss to Chehalis at University High.

Matt Banner drove in three runs for Mt. Spokane, including a two-run single in the first.

Chehalis will play at 1 p.m. today against Olympic, which eliminated Burlington 6-5. The teams would meet again today if Olympic wins. That winner will play Thursday against the champion from the bracket at Cheney High.

•Jesse Moore finished 5 for 5 to lead a 15-hit attack as the East Division-leading Wenatchee AppleSox (25-12) defeated the Spokane RiverHawks 8-3 in West Coast League play at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Field.

Cody Reeves went 3 for 4 for Spokane (17-21), which is percentage points ahead of Kelowna for second place in the East.

Golf

Clarkston’s Joel Dahmen shot a 3-under-par 69 and is tied for seventh place, four shots off the pace, after the first round of the 43rd Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at The Gallery Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.

Tennis

Entries are due by 8 p.m. Friday for the Spokane City Tennis Tournament at the Spokane Racquet Club.

The tournament will run Aug. 6-9 and be played on indoor and outdoor courts.
