Deciding Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski’s decision on his future as U.S. national team coach is expected to come next month. USA Basketball spokesman Craig Miller said Wednesday that Krzyzewski and USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo agree a coaching decision would come before the Americans’ minicamp for young players from July 22-25 in Las Vegas.
Hired Louisville named Ralph Willard as associate head men’s basketball coach after he resigned as Holy Cross head coach. Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said he had pursued Willard for 10 years. Willard previously coached as an assistant on Pitino’s staff with the New York Knicks and at the University of Kentucky. In 10 seasons at Holy Cross, Willard won 62 percent of his games, compiling a 192-117 record.
Staying Former football coach Tom Osborne is staying as Nebraska’s athletic director. Osborne, 72, had indicated he would step down when his contract expires in summer 2010. But the university said that Osborne has agreed to stay.
Dropped Pittsburgh prosecutors have dropped a misdemeanor drug charge against Steelers wide receiver and Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes. Allegheny County Assistant District Attorney Rachel Newman announced the decision at a court hearing.

Signed Goaltender Ray Emery is getting his second chance in the NHL. A year after Ottawa released the petulant player, forcing him to turn to a Russian league when no other NHL team would take him, Emery agreed to a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers worth about $1.5 million.
Honored Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award in Toronto for his record-breaking performance in the Beijing Olympics. Bolt became the first man to win gold in the 100 meters (9.69 seconds), 200 (19.30) and 400 relay (37.10) in world-record times in the same Olympiad.
